Grizzled Pintail (Acisoma panorpoides)
It is a small dragonfly with blue eyes. Its thorax is azure-blue marbled with black to form a beautiful pattern on the dorsum and the sides. I have seen on a few occasions is Acisoma panorpoides. It's only when you get close (which is actually quite difficult) that you notice its big bulbous abdomen. This typical dragonfly is is found in subtropical or tropical swampy or marshy habitats. It has a very weak and short flight and keeps close to the herbage and reeds in the heavily weeded ponds and lakes where it breeds. Its unique color has attracted me to get a couple of shots of its look. In order to get the full shape, I had to be careful to approach to its front. After knowing my presence was not detected, I slowly zoomed toward it. I changed my position from the behind to the right side so that I was able to successfully shoot it. As I always do, the head was my main focus on the insect. No matter what, a headshot was a matter. Here are some photos of Bright Scarlet Red dragonfly that I took this afternoon.
