Frogs, Frogs, and More Frogs: A Quick Update From North Carolina

It's been a few days since I checked in. Not much is happening in this neck of the woods. I've been so caught up with work and taking care of my mom. I'm hopeful that she's turned the corner with her stomach issues. With her being 71, trips to the emergency room in the middle of the night are scary. That said, fake-fall part two didn't last long, as we were back in the 80's this week. I've got a few pictures to share.

This little guy (he and his friends were slightly bigger than my thumbnail) had three friends who all looked the same. They were on my car cover and then under it as well. I couldn't get a really good shot of them as they jumped the second I got close, and I didn't want to zoom in and mess up the quality, so here we are.

The toad below was about fifteen steps from these guys. When I found him, he was stuck in the drink. As you can see, he wasn't afraid at all, stopped, and went completely still for some quick pics. The sun was shining a bit more in that area, so the pictures came out somewhat better.

But I helped him out. What's wild is that in certain parts of the world, this creature right here would be food. In others, it would be fish bait! He's sitting next to a dried-up basil leaf if that's any sign of his size. These things are everywhere this time of year, and with all the rain we've been getting, they've doubled over the last month. You can literally hear them outside if the window is open. Which I actually love as it reminds me of going fishing with my grandpa when I was little.
