What's winter garlic?

Garlic that is planted in the garden in autumn and left to winter in the ground is called winter garlic. It is frost-resistant and begins to grow already in early spring.

Why have you covered it?

This is the so-called mulching technology, which protects garlic from excessive frost, improves soil properties, and serves as nutrition. Experience shows that it really works. You can not cover garlic with anything and it will still grow in the spring, but thanks to mulching, the yield is much greater.

Oh right... I have seen people do this to crops here. I didn't know there was a name for this technique.

We have also planted garlic in our backyard. The shoots are already springing and I think there won't be any need for mulching because winters are not extreme here and are shortlived.

Your landscapes in late autumn are very different from ours 😃

Therefore, I think you will definitely not need mulching. Although it is used not only and not so much for protection against frost.

Ah, I wish I had a little more warmth 🙂

If your autumn is like this, how is winter? 🫣
