Giorno dodici.

Day twelve.
My dear Jeff, yesterday's letter was dedicated to my family as I decided to do once a week, so don't worry that something has happened to me. Here I am adapting better than I thought, you know a fairly effeminate homosexual who is thrown into the wolf's den can only get out of it in a dead sack, with some bones still in the den that is stripped of the herd of ravenous beasts; instead, luckily for me, I found a companion back in prison life here. The days pass in monotony; I'm still a freshman in this place so I have few privileges, the only things that keep me busy are writing, which I can practice little because the pieces of paper I write on are limited as much as the ink I use to spread the words, therefore I reserve this art only to be able to communicate with you; and the other thing that keeps me mentally wise within these walls are the conversations with Ruben, his heartbreaking confidences that when he finishes telling them I can hardly hold back my tears, while he lets himself go completely in his pain. A man so leathery in appearance that hides such a sensitive side, a real pearl of humanity; I am so honored to be his confidante, that he has decided to open up with me, to purge his conscience by talking to me about what he has spent during his life. I feel sorry for him, his pain is that he never had anyone to get rid of in here before I arrived, and this must have deprived him of part of his human being.
Today he told me about his work. As I told you, after losing his brother in the war and the farm that was taken over by a food company, he was hired as a butcher in one of their stores. His duties were the killing of the animal, in which he excelled in skill and precision. He was able to easily hang the carcasses of the dead animal and severed the jugular with a clean cut, the rapid bleeding prevented the meat from acquiring a spoiled taste. He stripped the animal's body slices with his bare hands and with his manual skill he selected excellent cuts of meat; and for this he was very famous, everyone went to buy meat from him. His incredible strength and delicate hand allowed him to make a fortune by doing a job he was very passionate about. Then came the prison to take away all the happiness he had accumulated so far.
He still hasn't been able to tell me why he was locked up between these icy walls, and I don't intend to force him to tell me, both to avoid the risk of him closing again and because I'm a little intimidated by him, and by that who may have committed.
The day passed between his tales, the ration the hour of air and the letter I am writing to you, with more effort than usual because my vocabulary is getting a little smaller, being difficult to immerse yourself in reading here with shortage of books in the prison library, which for the most part are on the subject of the law, do you know how it is ?!
I await your reply letters placidly and ask you the incredible courtesy to send me some books too, so that my sentences are more colorful with a better lexicon, just to satisfy your curiosity while you read, because I don't want to get bored with my boring life in the cell.
With my immense and boundless love for you, DG.
