Experience is the best teacher

Some times ago, when people says that experience is the best teacher, We us to argue vehemently with them that experience is not the best teacher, not knowing that we were giving someone of the proves out of ignorant.

No wonder, during my late mum's days on earth, she always have a particular African proverbs that says "what ever an elderly man sees while sitting down, a you child cannot see it while standing up" hmmmm this days I keep on flashing back to some of the memories of the past how I really debate with my mum that that her proverbs are local and not correct because she is an illiterate not knowing that she was very correct and is experience that made her to keep repeating and believing the proverbs.

Now I really know the vitality of the presence of elderly personalities with a child, but the irony of this case is that when an elder is giving an advice
The young people around such elder always turn deaf ear to his or her advice, And this is because of pumposity and arrogancy or feelings of being better or civilized than the elderly person.

MY EXPERIENCE

I was born and brought with a good parental training and in those days myself and my siblings always go to the farm with my parents most expecially when secondary schools goes on vacation, we always work hard to assist our parents so that there will be food on our table and Money for our school fees.

But after my graduation from secondary school, I gained admission into the university, and there was a man I used to help during my days in secondary school, I always assist him in his farm in the evening and many others domestic works I did for him because he has no child.

So the man gave me a large portion of land that I should farm and he has given it to me as my own, that even if he die the land is mine, but I foolishly told the man that though I appreciate his offer but am now in school so I could not combine farm with my studies and even though I received the land now, I had nothing to do with it since I will not finish from the university and come back to the village to farm, so I rejected the land and told her that I was not interested, I even pick an offence and began to think negatively as if the man wants to bewitch me to come back to the village and become a farmer after my university.

So I came and explain this to my mum, and she said I should not think negative like that, I should accept and collect the land from him because the can become valuable in the future since the land is closer to the house unlike our own farm land that is far from the house, but I still remain adamant to the advice from my mother.

Just like a dream, one year to my final years in the university, one of the rich men in my place extablished college of education in my village closer to the land that I rejected from the man I helped. And by that time the man was dead already, and the extended family took over the land immediately he died because he died without a child.

Many investors began to buy the land from the family members till they sold all the portion of the land, so I began to regret and shade tears that in if I had known I would have collected the land from the man when he begged me to take over the land.... Hmmmm...I am regretting my mistake up till now....

This make me to fully believe and understand that experience is really the best teacher as my mum predicted what could happen in the future of the land because of her experience before I remained adamant kicking against my mother's ideas thinking that I was right due to my inexperience.

I will ever believe that that popular saying that says "experience is the best teacher".
