CONTEST ALERT: **My Neighborhood Watch #68 - Reporting Events Around us**

in Steem4Nigeria3 days ago

Hello friends how are you all doing? Welcome once again to my blog, as I share interesting happenings in my neighbourhood.

I attended an interesting and educative event in my neighbourhood that showcased the past and present attire of the Igbo culture in Nigeria. Titled "Ije Ngala"

The Igbo are from the southern part of Nigeria, known for their unique industrious way of life.

The organisers of the event in my neighbourhood did a great job in refreshing our minds of the old Igbo culture and also educating the younger ones about what the old dress sense of the Igbo was like.

It was an event that both the old and young benefited from. It was also entertaining with cultural dance, a fashion parade, and cultural meals.

The ancient Igbo way of dressing was displayed.
For the women they tie a short wrapper down and another wrapper on the chest to cover their breasts. With beads worn around their waist. The younger girls did not cover their chests, they just had the short wrapper round their waist.

For the men they wore wrappers around their waste since they believed that clothing was just to cover their private parts.

However, the world has evolved and we have our beautiful modern attire where the women have a full covering of wearing a blouse with a long wrapper or a long gown.
The men wear trousers with an Isiagu (meaning Lion's or Tiger's head) top and a cap. I also learnt that this Isiagu attire signifies power in the Igbo culture.

I enjoyed this entertaining event of our Igbo culture which consists of the old practices and the modern practices added to the Igbo culture.
I hope to attend a different cultural fashion story event like this and learn about other cultures' attire in my country.
Trust you enjoyed it too as you read through my blog.

Snapshots were taken with my phone.

I invite @Chima09, @rossnenye and @eveetim to join the contest
