The Lies I Grew Up Believing

in Steem4Nigeria4 days ago

Hello, steem4nigeria friends; it is another beautiful Thursday to make my entry for the topic. Growing up, especially on this side of the world, was an amazing phase filled with intriguing storytelling. We can not remove the traditional system from our beliefs and conversations.

What were the lies you believed while growing up?

Growing up, there were several fallacies we believed, and how these made way into the minds of many is still unimaginable. Maybe, because as kids, we are prone to easily believe what we are told as young minds.

During the developmental stages of every child, it is natural that we grow into different stages of our lives. This was evidet in the, teething stages where the first set of teeth in a child os.known as the milk teeth. Since they are mostly going to fall out, especially the first four teeth.

Since we already know that they will fall off, this is where the fallacies creep in. We were told different stories. The story of which teeth should fall off first or grow in a child first, but the one of what happens when it falls off is the real deal.

We were told that each time our teeth fall off, we should make sure we throw these teeth on the roof so that birds or lizards can consume them. The only time.our teeth would grown back is when they are eaten by these predators. If they are not eaten by them, they won't grow back to us.

What was your reaction after finding out the truth as an adult?

The feeling is mutual and and I only got to smile and laugh out loud to the ignorance I've been carrying all along. Education they say is the backbone of human advacement and intelligence. There is no direct or indirect correlation of teeth replacement with allowing predators to swallow them.

When we age, knowledge is acquired, and we get to know what we didn't especially basic science and natural principles. I never felt bad but still felt, maybe, they wanted us to discard the fallen teeth so as not to play with them and get contaminated through it. My thoughts, anyway.

Do you subscribe to telling lies to young minds in a bid to protect them, or do you choose to call a spade a spade?

I have no business with fallacies or lies as it is called. I believe kids should know what they see, experience, or come across. Having to dance around issues are just for the moment, they will get to know about those things we want to keep away from them, and they see us differently.

Telling them lies don't set a good precedence at all but rather set them on the of pretense and deceit. We have correctly defend and protect them, and not having to lie before achieving the same purpose.

This is my entry for this task. Thanks to the organizers.

¡Saludos amigo!🤗

MODs Comment/Recommendation:

Your own was different from mine, I was told that when lizard eats the teeth it would never grow again so we were advised to always throw it in where no one will see it.

Whenever I remember those things I was told as a child, I just would smile and laugh at it so well. It's better we say the truth than covering up with some false statements.

Exactly. We just have to own up and express positively to our kids. There isnt need to keep going round the circles of lies.
