Highlights of Yesterday Meet-Up with Nigerian Steemians
Dear friends and fellow Nigerians recalled I invited everyone for a meet up 5 days ago, together with fellow country representatives it was held yesterday at the time and venue scheduled for it.
I was overwhelmed by the turn up though a poor network connection couldn't allow some who were interested to join.
The meeting started at 4 p.m. with @ngoenyi, @ruthjoe, and @chiabertrand from Cameroon! they were exchanging pleasantries before I later joined @ngoenyi in person. I anchored the meeting then the agenda was followed one by one.
Firstly I spoke about some ways we can promote steemit on other social media, for example, we can make a video talking about Steemit and upload it on a YouTube channel, and we can make a post on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter about our prestigious platform. Steem Promotion is not all about signing up a new user but creating the needed awareness, then any interested person can join us.
Ngoenyi then told us that she will soon host a contest on the promotional challenge, well I can't wait for it! The floor was open for suggestions on how we can create awareness for Steem:
@solexybaba one of our city coordinators suggested we should create a group on one of the popular social media Facebook, where we can collectively promote steem, this will create more impact than individual promotion. The suggestion went well with everyone so we adopted it and below is the link to the group we created on Facebook for the steem promo👇

I will upload images of our previously executed charity projects there, and subsequent ones, and some other good posts too, I believe this will send a good signal. We will try to keep the page lively, I've invited more than 100 of my friends on Facebook to join the group a few minutes ago, and I believe some will join.
I also discussed the need to guard against giving the wrong impression that Steemit is a get-rich-quick platform. We need to be sincere while telling people how Steemit works, we need the right motive users, not those who will be dissatisfied and leave after making a few random posts.
Ngoenyi spoke about witnesses in the platform, We made them understand the work of witnesses in the platform, that they're our friends, that they have the best interest of the platform at heart, they aid for steemgrowth and development and they're the ones validating our transactions. We encourage them to vote for @steemchiller, @pennsif.witness, @bangla.witness, and any other ones they like because every user has the opportunity to vote for 30 different witnesses.
Next, @benton3 took us on the new development on steem and how we can contribute to the development. He spoke about the steem decentralized application on Blockchain, web 3.0, etc. He then call on us to do something that will add value to the platform, it was so pathetic that when @steemitblog called on developers to propose a project for her to sponsor, there was no developer from Africa, well there's always another chance so he encouraged us to expand our knowledge of coding, and programming and developing ourselves in case an opportunity presents itself again we will be able to grab and contribute to steemgrowth by becoming developers, or even witnesses. Hmm 🤔 that sounded great to everyone.
Again, we discussed how to remain active on the platform, and that we should allot time each day to Steemit, it could be 1 hour it does not necessarily mean we made posts during this time, we can engage meaningfully with others. Then we should have the habit of supporting one another through meaningful comments and Upvotes.
Furthermore, emphasis was placed on consistency, because it beats talent we're encouraged to be consistent and have fewer expectations so that we won't be disappointed but we'll derive happiness when we get rewarded.
Lastly, the room was made for Nigerians to share their challenges on the platform, some were complaining about votes, some limited time, lack of electricity, and others nothing they're just flowing well. So I encouraged all to think of what they can contribute to the platform before we think of what we get.
The meeting was adjourned by 5:30 pm we all agreed to be having Meetup twice a month. We felt encouraged and refreshed!!!

The internet downtime cost some of us attendance at the meetup, it was quite an unpleasant occurrence on an important day like that.
It's a pleasure knowing that the meetup went on quite well and this piece has just walked us through the entire discussion during the meetup. Thanks for the update, @goodybest.
