SEC WK2: The Language In My Country

It's a pleasure to be part of this interesting contest about the languages in my country. Language has been an important tool for communication since creation, I read in the Bible that there was a time when all mankind spoke one language until they went against God's purpose and God confused their language and the unity then was greater than now.

Language plays a very significant role in our lives, it's an aspect of any culture, the way people communicate with one another, think and build relationships and it creates a sense of community there are thousands of languages in the world and where I come is one of the most multi-lingual people in the world, alright before I write in detail on the topic permit me to invite my friends @bossj23 @sbamsoneu and @piya3 to join this contest

Well, I'm not very good at learning new languages but I'm fluent in English, Nigerian Pidgin, and Ibibio, and I know a few words in Igbo, and Hausa languages. What a shame I couldn't speak any of our three major languages fluently!

Knowing the three major languages in my country has really helped me to improve my communication skills with others, and the basic ones I knew in Hausa and Igbo are an added advantage. It helps me to connect with people from other cultures and the reason is not far-fetched because we tend to connect more deeply with those we identify with. The big smiles and joy I usually see on people's faces when you greet them in their language, asking them how they are in their language is immeasurable! They are happy because they know you're interested in them and this has helped me to create strong personal relationships with them and both in the business world.

For example three major ethnic groups can be found in my city, the Ibibios, Igbos and Hausas, people normally identify me with the Igbos because of my looks, so they're normally suprise and happy when they hear me speaking our language Ibibio, same goes with the Igbos and Hausas. Greeting the Hausa in their language makes them happy, they know you're interested in them, asking them how they are, how much the commodity you want to buy etc will make them favour you, that's the simple truth.

In summary, Nigeria is one of the most linguistically diverse countries in the world, with more than 500 Languages, our official language is English and our 3 major national languages are Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo. We must speak more than a language as this will help us to have deep connections with people of other cultures.
