Say in your own words and based on what was explained in class: What is law?

In my own understanding, Law can be seen as a set of rules, principles and regulations created by a Country to guide the behavior of the Citizens.

A citizen is driving a vehicle on the road and disregards the traffic light. Seconds later he is stopped by a traffic police officer and this citizen claims that he disregarded the traffic light because he was in a hurry to pick up his son and take him to the hospital because he is feeling unwell.

Based on what you have learned, please state in which part of the case Objective Law and Subjective Law are present.

Objective applies in the Case that the man disobeyed the Traffic Light. Obedience to the Traffic Light is a Law mandated for everybody to obey regardless of your social class and the essence of the traffic light is to prevent Accident and ensure the safety of everyone including the man who defaulted.

The Subjective law is applicable here because the man's son is very sick and the right to life is our of the Fundamental human right recognized worldwide. Having such Emergency situation that involves saving life is enough to justify the man's actions.

Based on what you have explained in class, make a comparison and according to the law of your country. Give an example of a law and an example of a norm.
LawNorm
The law is set of rules, principles and regulations created by a Country to guide the behavior of the Citizens.Norm is a rule, regulations created by a group of people to Govern their behavior within the group.
It is created and applicable to every citizen of a Country. It's created and applicable to a particular people.
Violating it can lead to Sanctions like going to Jail.Violating it involves Sanctions like leaving the group.

Example of Law in my Country is the Law against Internet fraud and whomsoever found commiting this crime no matter who you're faces the full wrath of the Law.

Example of Norm in my Country is the respect for elders. Young people are supposed to accord respect to their seniors.

Mr. Juan Perez rents an apartment but his financial situation is getting worse and he has not paid for 3 months. On one occasion, a meeting of apartment owners was held and the owner of the apartment where Mr. Juan Perez lives brought the case to the attention of the owners of the other apartments. They took the opportunity to say that they have received complaints from the neighbors of the building because Mr. Juan Perez has 4 dogs as pets in his apartment, something that is prohibited in the building's rules of coexistence.
Analyze and explain in which part of the case Mr. Juan Perez is violating a law and in which part he is violating a norm.
  • Violation of Law Scenario

So in this situation, Mr Juan Perez signed an agreement to always renew his rent after three months, Paying rent is a Legal Requirement therefore every tenant is mandated to renew their rent once its expires. Therefore, Mr Juan Perez violated the Law by not paying his rent and therefore Legal actions can be taken against him.

  • Violation of Norm scenario

Norm is a set of rules and regulations established by a set of people to serve as guidelines. Even though is not enforced by the state or Country. It is important to obey them inorder to avoid conflicts. Mr Juan Perez in this scenario is violating the norm of the Apartment by keeping four dogs which can be disturbing the peace of his co-tenants.

Explain in your own words what importance Comparative Law has for you according to what you have seen in class.

Comparative Law which is the comparing of the Law of a specific Country with the Law of other countries has the following advantages.

  • It helps to compare, analyze and understand other Countries Legal System, thereby giving room to learning from others thereby fostering understanding and cooperation among Nations.

  • It also helps Nations to observe other Countries Legal System adopt, amend and reform their and this helps to foster Development in the Country.

  • It also helps in Global Governance by promoting Values and principles among Nations.

  • It also helps Legal Practitioners to think critically, by Comparing and analyzing other people's Laws it will help them to develop better approach to solving problems.

Thanks for reading through my post, I invite @chilaw, @blessedbee and @adachukwu to participate in this contest.
