The boy felt you were in no position to advise him. But then, the saying "experience is the best teacher" proved to be true again. Now, he's learnt a lesson.
As for his parents, they should have known how to correct a child in a better way. Cos, how will you beat a child to a state of being unconscious. That's bad... Really bad.
I hope the boy recovers faster.
