Greetings to amazing members of this community, I am so delighted to share with you all how my students week went in the University of Uyo. For those of us who are not well acquainted with what students week is I will kindly tell you all what it is. Read along , God bless 🙏.

WHAT IS STUDENT WEEK

Student week is all about students having fun and using such opportunity to socialize and make new friends. It fosters unity, peace, tranquility and progress among students of the university community. From the name student week it usually last for one week. According to tradition lectures are not supposed to be held but due to the changes in the school system lectures were held. Though some could not participate fully because of the lectures but I will give an highlight that took place.

RAG DAY 😁

This day is set aside for students to dress or go in an attire or should I call it regarlia of a mad person, that sounds ridiculous right, but it is for fun. In other not to be tagged as a mad person you need to obtain a ticket from the Director of socials to ascertain that you are not a mad person if you choose to participate in the fun. People who participate in this go around the street and houses as the case may be to ask for money. Some might choose to Walk in group as it is more fun.

OLD SCHOOL DAY

Old school day 😁

This day is set aside for students to dress like those in the old school era or period. That period of old school days was in the 80s and 90s so to say. Here people try to portray and copy those people of those days, by their dressing, haircut and so on. People may choose to dress like teachers, pastors, and old school politicians. I personally was dressed like a village head master of those days.

CULTURAL DAY

Igbokwenu ooo

This day is also set aside for people to portray their cultural heritage. Students are to dress representing their different ethnic groups or tribes as the case maybe. Some people represented the Yoruba tribe, some Igbo and some Hausa, most people represented the Efik and the Ibibio people. I personally I represented the Igbo people that is because I had attire for Igbo tribe. Igbokwenu to the Igbos in this community.

This was the highlight of my students week.
