Have you ever seen one?
Yes, I have seen the Goose many times when I visited to my countryside home. Living in city life we mostly see it in the local market in the winter season. On the other hand in the village, it can be seen in every house. The eggs of it and the meat of it is very tasty and healthy.
Is it edible in your locality?
Unfortunately living in the city the goose is not available in my locality. But I can get it in our local bazaar. From there, I bought it and mostly ate it in winter because of its delicious taste and also warm our body in this chilled environment. We ate this as a curry or delightedly cooked it as a barbecue. The eggs of it also very nutritious for our health. We have it in many ways like – omelets, fried or making curry with it.
What are its characteristics and what makes it unique?
A goose has several characteristics which make it distinguish them from other birds. Some of the characteristics are mentioned in below –
- Than a duck a goose is larger and heavier besides it is smaller than a swan. It can be found in various colors like – white, grey, brown, and black.
- Their wings are strong and broad, which helps them to fly long distances.
- Rather than staying single they prefer to stay in groups or flocks. They all moved together from and there with their honking sounds.
- Even after a long period they can recognize people and animals which indicates their excellent memories.
- They have a strong emotional bond with their flock and mate. Whenever their partner dies or is lost then we can see the signs of their mourning of distress even though they isolated themselves for a while.
Why do we have the phrase wild goose chase?
The phrase refers to a situation where someone is trying to achieve something that may be impossible or has no real chance of being achieved. It basically refers to an effort that is pointless and its results are disappointing. Wild geese can fly away very quickly and immediately when they feel threatened or annoyed by a place. Due to this, many times, hunters chase them but fail to catch them and they have to return empty-handed, exhausted, and hopelessly exhausted. Therefore, the phrase is used to describe this useless or futile effort based on the behavior of wild geese.
In the late 16th century, the famous novelist William Shakespeare's much-discussed play Romeo and Juliet was a character named Marquis. He used this phase of his dialogue. Based on the plot of the drama which literally means that all riders must follow their leader during a horse race. Even if their leader's path seems strange or pointless, they must follow him. Over time, the phrase gradually came to mean "tiring and unrewarding." It refers to a situation where the chances of success are very low.
