THE JOURNEY OF THE SENSES

The third day of our adventure arrived. The intense days we have lived and the amount of new sensations and emotions make it seem like we have been in the land of smiles for 10 days.
This day we visited the train market and floating market in the morning and the backpackers' neighbourhood in the afternoon.

Railway market (Mae Klong)

It is about 90 km from Bangkok, and despite being full of tourists, it is worth seeing, as it is something very curious that you will not find in another country.
It is a market conditioned on each side of the train tracks that passes 8 times a day through the Thai village of Mae Klong.

There are stands on the ground (very close to the track) and others protected with awnings. What is striking is not only the speed with which the merchants pick up the awnings (just a few seconds before the train passes and with total peace of mind), but the amount of strange products that you can find in about 200 meters of market. Below I show you photos of some products: from frogs (yes, frogs), to vegetables, meat, fish, nuts, spices...

Floating market (Damnoen Saduak)

As the word implies, in this case we went from seeing a market on top of the train to one on top of the water. This is the floating market at Damnoen Saduak. There are many floating markets in Thailand, but this is undoubtedly the most touristic and famous one. So touristy that there are times when the number of boats full of tourists do not let you see the water.

It is recommended to go on a traditional boat tour. As in the train market, merchants sell all kinds of products, but this time from their boats, offering them to any tourist boat that passes by.

We were lucky that our guide took us not only along the main artery full of stands, boats and hustle and bustle, but also along the small and large channels in the outskirts, where we could feel the present poverty of the people of this region who live so close to channels and at the same time, we enjoy a very beautiful landscape.

Backpackers' Neighbourhood

Khao San Road is probably the largest backpacker's neighbourhood in the world that all travellers visiting Thailand pass through.
It's a neighborhood full of stands of all kinds and pubs and bars where the music (heard from the street) invites you to come in and have a good time. If the train market had surprised us with the variety of products, the best was yet to come.

From clothes shops, juice stands and Pad Thai...
To crocodile meat...

Even Thai massages...and women who guess the future...

But without a doubt, this neighborhood is known because most tourists have their first experience (perhaps not their last during the trip) with insects... to eat!

You will also have a great variety of all the insects, considered a delicacy for the inhabitants of this country.

(We tried these little ones and I assure you they tasted like barbecue sunflower seeds, nothing disgusting).

The trip to Thailand we baptized it as THE JOURNEY OF THE SENSES, and without a doubt this day was the beginning of the discovery of senses that we didn't know we had.

Hope you enyoed it!

It will continue...
