Randomness from a chainsaw carver's world..behind the photo

On occasion I find some interesting things walking around and through my workshop other than my sculptures. So here I will share those moments I've captured.

Fungus growing on an old spruce stump that I use to set finished sculptures on for display. Its been there a few years and every summer it grows differently, but always that orange color. I'm not a fungus expert but thought it was interesting. Taken with the live focus camera feature on my Samsung s10+ and processed with Photo Studio Pro app.

A pine beetle peeking in my shop...hey buddy there are no logs in here...these little guys can get big, they lay their eggs in the bark of a dead pine tree. Then the larva or grubs we call them, eat their way through the sapwood of the tree until matured, then emerge from the tree as this beetle. Only a nuisance when they jump out of a sculpture in a client's home. Otherwise they dont bother me and the birds like them.

I am also not a bug expert...but I do stop what I'm doing and take pictures when I see something glimmer.

I don't care what you say, snails are cool. 🤪

And so are bugs, as long as they don't bite.

I think it was drinking...there was this bead of water on its head and it spun on its back until the water was gone then got up and flew away. Yeah no kidding...

I'd also like to include this beetle that crossed my path one day last summer.

He perched briefly to visit before heading out.
