Goodday everyone:
Today I wish to give a few reason in detail why we cook food.
Majority of food eaten by man are cereals, vegetable, meat fish and some fruits majority of fruit are consume fresh when ripe examples are pawpaw, pineapple, garden egg, groundnuts, coconut, kolanut, cashew, gwava, apple, banana etc.
1 To detoxicate toxic substance present in the food
2 To remove micro organisms and kill them, their living things that can cause disease in our food.
3 To make the food presentable and soft for consumption.
4 To increase the quality of flavour and aroma if the food
5 To preserve the food.
Boiling –
this is achieved by cooking the food with water to keep moisture in the food through osmosis.
Roasting -
this is the use of dry heat to Reduce the moisture content of the food.
Frying –
this is achieved by using hot oil to reduce moisture content of the food
Baking -
this is the use of hot air the reduce the moisture content of the food.
Heat treatment- industrial use of heat to preserve food materials.
