Hello SteemFood pips! Still enjoying the taste of Filipino foods? Well, you're at the right place! Last episode, we made some "PALITAW" or STICKY RICE DUMPLINGS WITH COCONUT, another great Filipino snack that you should try. This time, we will have what we call "BUCHI" or SWEET POTATO BALLS. When you heard buchi, first thing in your mind is the Chinese fried pastry made from glutinous rice flour, sweet filling, and sesame seed coating. But that is not what we're going to cook here, we're going to do the Filipino style! Let's get going!

Ingredients

IMG_2839.JPG

  • 1/2 kg sweet potato (kamote)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 5 cups water

How to cook Buchi

Step 1

Put some water in a clean pot and boil the sweet potato on medium heat only. Make sure that the water is enough to cover the sweet potato. Wait until it becomes tender then allow it to cool afterwards.

Step 3

After mashing the sweet potato, add the flour and sugar then mix well. Take note of the desired amount of ingredients. We don't want it to be too sweet.

Step 4

Shape it according to your desired size and shape. I prefer it to be bite size only. Also make sure that your hands are clean. I scoop 2 tablespoon of the mixture and shape it into 2-inch flat balls then roll it in the flour.

Step 5

Pour 2 tablespoon of oil in a frying pan. When it's hot enough, fry the buchi. Fry it both sides until it achieve a golden brown look. I also prefer that you set the stove on low heat only.
