AI Doodle
Night Cafe runs daily art challenges. I've participated in a few of the challenges. However, many of the challenges make me sad because the challenges show how AI is rapidly distorting our reality.
Today's challenge was "Doodle Worlds." The site asked for generated art that had doodle qualities.
To me, doodles are things that appear in notebooks as one's mind drifts off in class. Some doodles are abstract. Some doodles are scribbled drawings.
While there have been artists who took their doodling skills to the next level to create elaborate art work, true doodles usually lack composition.
AI is great at composition. I think there is merit in taking pictures of doodles and enhancing doodles with AI.
However, many competitions like this Doodle World competition make me feel sad. AI simply does not understand human activities like doodling. AI can create images which are more compelling than human generate doodles.
The things created simply aren't doodles.
So, I spent the day trying to find old doodles in notebooks. I contemplated creating doodles to see if I can still doodle. All my ballpoint pens have gone dry with age. When I doodle with a pencil I start sketching.
I promised myself that I would post an image a day. The image shows a colorful doodle city.
When I created doodles in the past, they were all monochrome as I would draw them with my note taking pen.
If I was to do a doodle for the soul sake of doodling, I might add color. Anyway, I added this doodle world to my collection of AI Images.
The only interesting thing about this post is the way that something as simple as thinking about the nature of doodles can throw off a whole day.
