According to World Health Organization (WHO), healthy aging is “is the process of developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables wellbeing in older age.” People think that, aging is a burden whereas it is not we can’t stay young to the age of 70.
Aging is inevitable because it’s part of life. The only thing in age is that, as we grow older, we experience different challenges in life, including loss of loved ones, lack of money, retirement, and so on. How we handle and grow from this challenges help us to stay healthy as we grow older.
Healthy aging is often maintain by good habits. This habits are very important to help you support your healthy aging lifestyle. This lifestyle could be, having a good relationship with your husband or wife children, daughter’s in-law, grandchildren, neighbors and others. Also, loneliness can be harmful to your health. Its leads to depression, stay connected with your family members and volunteer to help people in need.
Another thing that will help you maintain a good healthy aging is, eating good food. Eating well will help reduce the risk of diseases in your system, such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease. Etc. More so, increase the intake of fruits and vegetables. Make healthy meals for yourself and for your family and stay healthy.
Moreover, when you are up to 50years, increase the intake of calcium and vitamin D. Calcium is one of the building blocks of strong bones. High vitamin D foods include fish, mushrooms exposed to sunlight, fortified yogurt, orange juice, soy milk, cereals, cod liver oil supplement, egg yolks, salmon, sardines and herring. Herring is a small round fish eaten around the world.
As you are growing old, drink sufficient water every day. If you don’t take enough water, you will be dehydrated and this might result in dizziness, fainting, low blood pressure and more. Take enough fiber to avoid constipation and vitamin B12 such as fish, milk products, and chicken, to help build red blood cells in your system. Exercise regularly to maintain good health.
Take enough sleep to improve your memory and your mood. Always think positively than dwelling in the negative or past. Smile all the time when necessary to reduce stress and surround yourself with people that will boost your spirit. More importantly feed your mind with God’s word. Its goes a long way in keeping you healthy.
In conclusion, as you are aging try and improve on your health, eat good food, take enough water, exercise regularly, think positively, smile with people around you. To keep your memory active read books, magazines, listen to music, see movies. This are the tips that will help you healthy in your old age.
