Steem and Healthcare in Developing Countries // Steem Promo during a free health screening Exercise

Healthcare has been a major concern in developing countries like Ghana for a while now. Aside the fact that most of these institutions tend not to have the ultramodern equipments and diagnostic tools that make things easier for both health workers and patients many find it difficult affording healthcare and even more difficult affording quality healthcare due to the extra cost that may come with seeking private healthcare.

Ghana is currently ranked among the top countries with a high prevalence of Glaucoma a blinding condition that doesn't give any sign or symptom until it is too late and it is irreversible too. World Health report has said that out of about 2.2 billion vision impaired conditions 1 billion could have been prevented through ocular healthcare, checkups and opportunistic diagnosis with management or treatment.

The issues we tend to face is that many could not afford to just go for regular checkup because of the fee that may come with it and so would only come when they feel there is something wrong and even that would wait until it is too late to come because they want to be sure they are sick before they come and it is through some of these actions that many loss their sight to simple conditions such as uveities which could have easily been prevented with steroid treatment.

Here is how we come in, for the past 3 years bettervision was established with the help of philantropist and generous donors in the likes of @pennsif, @adollaraday, etc and through crowdfunding from the blockchain have been able to under several free eye screening expeditions across the country with more focus in remote areas where access to quality and affordable healthcare is extremely difficult to come by.

Over the years we have come to add steem promo as part of our activities on our outreach expeditions because we have come to understand that whiles we may not always be available at all those locations to help the people who may need help, we can show them a way to be able to access healthcare within their locality with the help of the steemit blockchain where they can share their what they love doing and get some form of support in return.

Recently we had another free screening program for the staff of the national house of chiefs in Kumasi, Manhyia and the opportunity was also used to share flyers amongst the health workers that were brought together under the umbrella of bettervision and to some of the workers around.

These people work all the time and hardly have time for healthcare and these individuals due to the nature of their work are prone to conditions suchs Dry Eye Syndrome and Computer Vision Syndrome. The sad thing is they not having time for their health can cause them to easily miss out conditions like glaucoma whose effect can be very detrimental and irreversible. Hence our exercise.

We have been doing this for a while now and will continue to do so. We are hopeful that with the promosteem brand supporting this project now we will be able to go even farther and do even more. Our hope and dream is to establish a steem branded eye hospital in Ghana in the future to come and would be looking forward to getting entrepreneurs and investors and donors in the future to come.
