Dear Diary

A day to remember and a week to forget. I don't think I've ever been frustrated in my entire life before coupled with smiles that were fake as a result of the joy derived trying to mix my feelings of anger and happiness. I'll blame myself for the bad and good day that would forever remain a scar on my face. The song I'm currently listening to is Speechless.

I won't be silent that's why I'm writing this diary game entry with lots of mixed feelings. What really happened?. When you hear someone was fucked up, I was fucked up not by anyone but by a little thing which I've seem to overlook since this year started. This is the narration.

Morning Activities

When I listen to the lyrics of the song; Speechless by Naomi Scott, I take me mind to some lines in reference to what happened today. It may seem to be a small thing but it messed me up, leaving me with vital lessons.

But I won't cry, And I won't start to crumble, Whenever they try, To shut me or cut me down

I woke up with my day having a good start with something spiritual as I considered the scriptures prayerfully with my family and handed over all activities into his hands before going out to create an Impact, the greatest impact I've ever given.

Little did I know that I myself would be impacted too. It all started when I left out with no physical cash at hand to the junction to get some cash via transfer as it has been a normal routine for me.

I usually have some cash on me before taking some out of my account. Today, I went empty to take out from my account. Little did I know it was a day of lessons. Network dealt with me severely. My bank app couldn't open as it was loading continuously like forever. I didn't take it as a big case though because it usually happen and get resolved in no time.

I stood there trying to get this resolved for over an hour. I placed calls. All the people I called didn't pick up. I just stood there frustrated as I didn't have transport fare to go to the public school I was assigned to create an impact.

After spending an hour and 30 minutes, God decided to salvage me from my trying situation. Someone sent money to the person I wanted getting physical cash from and that was how my frustration was lifted temporarily. I've never been so stranded in my life. It was then I learnt important lessons of not taking chances as disappointments are bound to happen to anyone.

I then reached the school wearing a fake smile. On getting there, I saw some students assembling for compound work, guided by their compound masters while others were punished for coming late. What I observed there is that most students barely come to school to learn.

They are always engaged in supervision especially the perfects. They trade their lessons for supervision and control. Anyways, that's by the way.

It was my second to the last day in the school. I had to give them the last and final drilling. I sat them down for the first time and spoke sense into them. I gave them the best motivation they've ever had in years. This motivation covered their future depends on what they do now. They build their future and also spoil it now. I spotlighted some carefree attitude and indiscipline that must be change.

Experiences shared moved many to tears. They resolved to give in their best. I was opened to all students and not just to the brilliant ones. Reasons they help me shine my light in that school. I was the talk of the town that day.

Charity/Reward Program

After drilling them on what they needed to know as they may not be told anywhere, I took to giving them a Reward tests. Whoever answer a particular question correctly gets a prize of 5 steems. I've been using this reward factor to stimulate learning in this public school. My observations;

IMG_20240627_125717.jpg

  • Many aren't motivated to learn because they have parents who care less about their education and learning.
  • Some aren't staying with their parents and are working as house servants and cleaners
  • Others have the zeal to learn but no good teacher who picks interest in their understanding of a particular topic
  • Personal interest is not shown in the dull ones and they become more dull.
  • No proper counsel given and guidance.

The result of the reward factor: This is actually one of the best teaching strategy that has worked for me as a mentor and I discovered this by the results shown below;

  • Active participation in Class
  • Self-discipline is attained to 50%
  • Many introverts in the classroom are now extroverts
  • A little motivation to spur learning was all they needed
  • They understood best whenever I teach because I use what they are familiar with and they carrying along not just the intelligent but everyone in the class
  • Problems are challenges were revealed and tackled.
  • Improved reading and communicating skills

The picture below shows a student who came to me and asked me help to purchase some malaria drugs and that his guidance have refused to spend money on him because he takes his education more seriously than their business. They stopped taking care of him except he gives what is due. I encouraged him and gave him the strength he needed to face whatever challenges he face at home.

I told him to do whatever they want from him but he shouldn't allow them jeopardize his future and that he has a bright one. I told him when there's a will, there's a way. People will always want you to continue being their servant till you die.

I gave him about 4 steems which is 1000 naira to buy the drugs prescribed.. I then snapped with students I rewarded for answering questions given out in class correctly.

Tomorrow is my last day with them in their school and I've decided to surprise them with the money I've gotten from steemit whenever I create contents about them. To qualify for my prizes, I gave them an assignment to read on topics which I'll ask everyone in class to answer the next day. I'll reward those who scores above 60%. And the questions given them would be technical. They are in their heels burning the night against tomorrow. I have my aims and objectives for doing this. Let's see how tomorrow goes.

So far, I've spent 20 steems as a reward factor for best performances to encourage both the intelligent and dull ones. All teachers have clearly seen the great improvement in the studies of these students. They are students I never expect to do well but they all shocked me like the ones on the picture below.

My happiness was based on the fact that I've laid a solid foundation for anyone to continue from. Service to humanity I must say. It was really a good day and a bad day as well.
