The Diarygame Saturday 14th September 2024: Attending A Traditional Wedding With My Clients
Hello friends, how are you? I believe you are fine. So this day, I took my clients to a commercial town(Oron) in my state for a traditional wedding. In this post, I will give you brief details of Oron and the traditional wedding.
BRIEF DETAILS OF ORON CITY
The city(Oron) is one of the Local Government Areas in Akwa Ibom state in Nigeria, and it's a commercial city and a border between Cameroon and Nigeria. In the city, fishing is ongoing, and people travel from different parts of Nigeria to Oron to purchase fish, crayfish, periwinkle, etc. Even exporters export Goods to Cameroon and import goods from Cameroon through the waterways in Oron. This city has an institution known as the Maritime Academy of Nigeria and a museum. But this time I wasn't here for tourism, but for a traditional wedding.
I took my precise location when I was there with Google Map and what3words
The distance from the capital city (Uyo) to the city is 72.1km, which is about 1hr 11min driving.
THE CHALLENGE I FACED ON THE WAY
On our way to the traditional wedding, my car broke down twice, and the alternator belt of my car cut. I called an auto mechanic who changed the belt for me, but the belt cut again when we drove a few meters away, maybe he did not fix it properly, so I had to look for another mechanic who fixed it properly, and this time the car didn't break again till we got to our destination and returned. My clients patiently waited for me to fix the car, and I appreciated them for their kind gesture.
BRIEF DETAILS ABOUT THE TRADITIONAL WEDDING
The traditional wedding was held as it's normally held in this locality.
1. Introduction: The master of ceremony (MC) introduced the chairman of the occasion, and other dignitaries to the audience. Then, he had the spokesperson for the groom's family introduce members of their family; he did likewise with the spokesperson of the bride's family. Afterward, prayer was said.
2. Matching in of the Groom: The groom and his men match in while dancing to traditional music; they were in Traditional attire. They danced around the venue and waved their hands at the audience.
3. Matching in of the Bride: The bride and her ladies match in while dancing to traditional music; she wears traditional attire. She danced around the venue and waved her hands at the audience.
4. The Groom took his wife-to-be to where his parents sat with a wine in his hand. They both knelt, and he told his parents that was the woman he wanted to marry and gave them the wine; they collected it and blessed them.
5. The bride took her husband-to-be to where her parents sat with a wine in her hand; they both knelt, and she told her parents that the man beside her was a man she wanted to marry and gave them the wine; they collected it and blessed them.
6. Handing of the Bride to the Groom: Both the parents of the Groom and the parents of the Bride came out. The Father of the Bride held his daughter's hand and handed her to the Groom. And they were pronounced husband and wife. This part is the most important part of our traditional wedding, if this is not Carried, it's as good as no wedding was held.
We immediately began coming back to Uyo because it was becoming dark, we drove safely to Uyo, and I dropped my clients at their house, then returned home.
This has been my diary!
