It's another exercise week, Haven witnessed a friend had the attack I was curious to learn from this class, this respiratory infection can lead to death if not properly handled , hence I have seen someone who passed out due to shortness of breath. Thanks to our teacher
@ashkhan for this fantastic topic, without any further explanation I want to present my homework below.

What's Asthma? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post.

This is disease that affects airways or obstruct the lung which makes it difficult for breathing. And if not treated on time it can cause whistling or shortness of breath

From what I learned in the class we have three types of Asthma which includes

  • Conventional asthma: This is the type that comes once in a while ,which is triggered by something.

  • Exercise induced asthma. This happened or it's a type that the airways are blocked during physical activities causing shortness of breath.

  • Occupational asthma. This is that type of asthma that is caused by some pollution from workplace.

They all have similar signs and symptoms that includes cough without sputum, shortness of breath and whistling.

Symptoms of Asthma

  • Painful breathing.
  • Whooping when trying to breath in or out.
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Consistent coughing especially at night.

factors that triggers Asthma are:

  • Polluted airs
  • Consistent Inhalation of tobacco
  • Allergy to dust
  • Lungs infections

How would you diagnose a asthma? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests?

To ascertain the severity of asthma it best to diagnose through the following.

  • Physical Exam by a physician. This is where the doctor will ask for the history of the family and other risk factor.

  • Lung function test. This test goes a long way to know how good the person with asthma can breath in and out.

  • PEF- peak expiratory flow test. This is a machine that dictates how fast the patient can breath out
  • Spirometry. This measures how much air you can breath and how fast. It's mostly used to diagnose people from age 5 and older.

Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practising.

pursed lip breathing

I sat with my hands placed on my legs ,I positioned my lung for breathing in and out, of course my chest muscles were strengthened and my breath was ok.

Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise

This is done as I placed my hand on my chest and the other hand on my tommy. Then I inhale in and out repeatedly until I was feeling it in my lungs

Chest Stretches

This I did by stretching my hands at my back ,carrying my head back then I stretched by breathing in and out repeatedly for some minutes.

Share your review after performing these exercises either on yourself, healthy individual or patient.

I like experimenting things on myself so that I can give exact account of how the experience is , unless is not human friendly exercise. I performed all the above exercise on myself. I can feel a big relief in my muscles and lungs.

I felt proper circulation of blood in my lungs

I noticed my breathing was a bit relaxed unlike when I started.

I can advise anyone doing all this exercise to carryout anyone that suits his or her body . I choked a little along the line of carrying out Chest stretch

Asthma can be manageable, there are drugs that can help ,why not choose a healthy way to avoid this disease. Health is wealth we all need to be health conscious.

I'm inviting @eveetim @goodybest @benton3

Asthma can be life threatening if not properly handled. From this practical lesson, I have learnt possible ways to help an asthmatic patient even when I don't have any around me. At least, learning something new is worth it.

Best wishes and thank you for the invitation.

Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.

Observations

Task 1 (3/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about asthma, and it's causes, symptoms, types. I appreciate your effort.

Task 2 (3/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination and history taking, performing the investigations of patients and specialized tests. Excellent.

Task 3 (3.4/4)
You try the pursed lip, diaphragmatic breathing and chest stretch. Try to keep your arms straight while performing stretch. Otherwise you perform well. Remember always take steam or nebulization before performing exercises to relax your muscles & dislodge sputum that can excrete out easily. I appreciate your efforts.

Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from any asthma as winter is the trigger of most the people suffering from asthma. Thank you.
