Dairy Game: A busy day for Farming and Going out with my kid sister | 16/11/2024

Every Saturday is always a busy one for me but this Saturday is special to me because I spent it with my family and friends in the village. For the past some months now I have been in Abakaliki my hometown in pursuit of something very important and since I didn't grow up in the village many people thought I couldn't do the work that is usually done in the village.

On this day, immediately I woke up from bed and we said prayers as a family my mother said we will all go to the farm to harvest cassava which will be used to prepare Akpu for the upcoming burial of our uncle which we lost about a month ago. She said I should stay at home because I may have no idea on how to work in the farm.

I told her I can do any work because I have always done this farm work even in the town where I was residing. So my siblings insteaded that I should rather remain at home and get potatoes from the garden close to the house and prepare for them to eat when they come since the cassava farm is very far.

I went ahead to do as they have suggested. Myself and Ada who is also a Steemian with the username @mercybliss went to the potatoes farm just behind the house and harvest some potatoes and then cooked It as we wait for them to return from the farm where they went to harvest the cassava.

It was indeed a beautiful moment for me because I decided to prepare the food myself using firewood since that is the main way they use to cook here. It wasn't an easy thing to prepare because they firewood gave me lots of issues. Immediately I finished they came back so we all joined hands and ate because I was also very famished.

When we finished eating, we went ahead to start pilling the cassava and getting it ready for the Akpu processing. The process of preparing Akpu is always very hectic because it involves harvesting, pilling, washing and soaking for some days for it to get rotten or melted before it will be washed and then cooked and pounded for the first time then cooked again and pounded for the last time.

We took a lot of time to pull the entire stuff because it was very much and when we finally finished pilling it, we went ahead to wash it and put it inside a bigger container where we soaked it. It will be soaked for atleast 3-4 days before the washing and cooking. So I hope I will be able to share the process and photography of the processing with us in my next publication.

Immediately we were done I hurridly went in and took my bath because I was so tired. My kid sister also rushed to me and said please I should take her out as she has been at home for so long. I agreed and I told her to freshen up as well so that we can go out together.

She took her bath and then we went out together. Immediately we got to the town we decided to take a picture because the weather was getting darker and we may not be able to get a clearer picture if we don't do that during the time we did.

We took some pictures and then went into one of the eateries and then made our orders. It was indeed a beautiful time well spent. We didn't go back home on time because we stayed there and also watched a few entertainment and that took us to around 7:00 p.m., then we went back home, I took my bath and then went straight to the bed and sleep because I was so exhausted considering the day's work.
