A touching story of a little girl: Lessons learnt!!!
I felt a cold chill down my spine, heartbroken and wept bitterly when I just received the terrible news that a 13 year old girl had just passed away. 😭😭
I'm putting this write up with intense grief and a heavy heart. I can't believe a little girl who just walked and played a few weeks ago is no longer alive.
This little girl was apparently well until a few weeks ago when she came to my pharmacy premises and presented with severe weakness, migraine, leg swelling, body and joint pains, abdominal pains and fever. All this symptoms occur 5 days prior to presentation.
From my observation, this young girl was severely pale and anicteric.
Well since this was a pharmacy premise and we do not have all the necessary equipment and expertise to take care of this little girl, I quickly referred to the parents to a private hospital located close by.
The parents were already complaining of lack of money, well fortunately they got to the hospital and some laboratory investigations were carried out.
This little girl was diagnosed with nephritic nephrotic which is an autoimmune condition. This little girl was never consistent with her medication due to financial constraints.
With time, the private hospital referred the parents to a government teaching hospital due to the complexity of her situation and the fact that they weren't able to afford the medical care at the private clinic
This is the part that got me teary, and I don't know weather to attribute it to ignorance or gross irresponsibility on the parents part😭
They took this little girl home on the grounds of no money, and decided to carry out self home management.
The little girls problem was advancing from bad to worse. This little girl was finally taken to some herbalist and administered herbal concoctions. She wasn't improving for months.
I reached out to the parent and after so many hours of convincing them to go to the hospital, they decided to take her to the hospital and the little girl couldn't make it to the hospital. She died right inside the vehicle.
I am pained at her demise and right now I feel I could have done more to help this little girl live a few more years.
