Hello Steemian friends, come back with me in this post about chameleons.

Chameleons are a type of lizard that can change their color. However, there is a mistaken opinion that chameleons change color according to their location.

Belonging to the Chamaeleonidae family, chameleons have the ability to change their color. Apart from that, chameleons also have parrot-like legs, eyes that can look in two different directions at once, and a long tongue and tail.

Generally, chameleons have green, yellow, cream, or dark brown colors. Britannica says the most popular misconception is that chameleons change their color to match the background of their setting.

Reasons Chameleons Change Color.

Scientists believe that chameleons change color to reflect their mood. By changing their body color, chameleons send communication signals to other chameleons.

For example, a chameleon will change its color to dark when it is angry. Then lighter colors can be used to attract mates.

Some chameleons also change color to help their bodies adapt to changes in temperature or light. Like a chameleon that is cold it may change to a darker color to absorb more heat and warm its body.

In Wonderopolis, the chameleon changes color against its will. However, it follows mood as a form of communication and adjustment to temperature or light.

Chameleons change color by dispersing or concentrating pigment granules (melanophore cells) in the cells containing them. In general, animals appear lighter in color when the pigment is concentrated and darker when the pigment is dispersed throughout the cells.

The color state of a chameleon at any given time is controlled by a complex interaction between hormones, temperature, and the animal's autonomic nervous system. Color changes are determined by environmental factors such as light and temperature as well as emotions.
