The author takes a leaf out of his childhood memories and let's us have a feel of how his family environment was like. He, very honestly, admits how his mother had a fragile connection with her in-laws and extended family.
Well from my own experiences, I can tell you that these aren't very uncommon. But people never let these unpopular events be known.
Overall, a nice writeup and aptly described with perfect wordings.
