Let's Drink Coffee by @vanessageorge

I am Colombian and my husband is Brazilian so in our home, we treat coffee drinking very seriously, maybe too seriously. My husband has several coffees per day, since very early in the morning, how I envy him. My stomach doesn’t allow me to do so. I can have only one coffee per day, with milk, after eating something.

Making and drinking coffee for us is a ritual. Mine starts every day after lunch. We usually use coffee imported beans from Colombia or from Brazil that we grind ourselves, right before making the coffee. The smell of coffee beans that had been just ground is wonderful. We buy 1 Kilo for 195 AED which would be 12 STEEM.

I always have coffee with milk, coffee without milk is too strong on my stomach and gives me horrible pain. But the milk is there to save my day. I buy full-fat milk and none of that watery skim milk or low-fat milk. I grew up on a farm, drinking milk almost directly from the cow. I cannot accept milk that doesn’t taste like it.

The coffee machine we have at home has the option to froth the milk and make it as foamy as I like. It takes about 45 seconds and makes the loudest noise, but is worth it. Much better than just warming up the milk.

After I had froth the milk and make a small amount of coffee, exactly one expresso size, I combine them and add the final touch, a spoon full on honey. Is not common but I think coffee tastes better with honey than with sugar or sweetener. I use a glass mug as a container so I can see all the layers of the beverage. It looks beautiful but if it is too hot I can burn my hands.

I always smell my coffee before having the first sip. It smells like happiness with a hint of honey. I take the first sip very carefully, I burned my tongue more than once, and it is not a nice feeling. This litter ritual makes my day, I love every sip of it!

Coffee is a wonderful beverage and is as old as time. I grew up seeing my family enjoying coffee, seating down in the living room, together, having the best conversation. For me, coffee is family, is joy, is home. I hope you get to experience a cup today!

Love,
Vanessa.
