At the mention of abortion what comes to your mind? Well, abortion is the process to ending a pregnancy so that it does not result in the birth of a baby, it could also be known as pregnancy termination. A pregnancy could be ended by taking medication(pills), injection or herbs etc. Research shows that about 9million women commit abortion every year and only 4million come out successful, this means that about 5million kick the bucket during/after the process. Therefore, we lose about 60% of lives every year as a result of abortion. Abortion is very rampant in our society today especially among the teenage girls. Therefore let us briefly consider reasons people indulge in abortion and it's consequences.

Many women, both married and single have their own reasons for engaging in abortion, below are some;

• Teenage girls abort pregnancies due to financial lack to take care of themselves and the babies

• They do not want to be objects of ridicule by peers, neighbors etc

• The fear of being a single mother and bringing up a fatherless child

• They assume that having a child out of wedlock will scare suitors away from them

• They do not want to lose their body shape which is associated with childbirth

• They are afraid of having to give up their educational goals, achievements, careers etc

• The fear of being disowned/neglected by family and friends

There is less occurrence of abortion among married women but some do have reasons for their actions, here are few;

• They do not want to have more than the stipulated number of children they agreed with their spouses

• Disappointment/failure of birth control methods

• Financial/economic condition of the family

They are many consequences of abortion which includes:

• Loss of God's approval/favor

• Broken marriages

• Surgical abortion procedures which requires thousands of naira

• Abortion could lead to heavy/persistent bleeding and irregularity in menstrual circle

• It could lead to loss of womb

• Some barren women around us may have committed numerous abortions leading to infertility

• Abortion could lead to infections affecting the uterus or fallopian tube

Abortion is the greatest act of sin because it involves life. Our God, Jehovah values life therefore we should never try to put a stop to it by any means.
To teenagers out there, please avoid any situation that could lead to unwanted pregnancy/abortion or if by any means you fall a victim, please keep the baby. You can remember vividly the post I made about my family last week which I said I have very young parents, maybe they had me when things were not okay or as teenagers but I am very grateful they kept me and proved that I am Precious to them(as my name implies).

To married women, birth control methods may fail but be reassured that the provider of children will never stop providing means to cater for these innocent ones, please keep the child. Abortion is murder, let us join voices to say:
