What happened:
Kamlapur Railway Station |
---|
It was a lovely afternoon. It had started with a bit of tension. We were going to travel to Saidpur on the Chilahati Express train with my husband, my mother, sister and my nephew. Since the train was supposed to leave at 5 PM we reached Kamlapur Railway Station around early afternoon. Crowds thronged the station, children running around and the place was lively.
My Nephew |

We heard about a blockade and our excitement faded. The train was delayed. Initially we were sure that it would be around half an hour late but hours went by and still no train. My nephew kept asking, ‘Aunt, where’s the train?” When will we go?”

The lights at the station began to glow, evening came. Some people were chatting over tea, some others sat on round benches around the piller. We were also becoming tired. However, with family with us, it wasn’t too bad. We laughed, we talked, we watched my nephew being funny as we passed the time.
My Mother and Sister |

Finally around 7:30 PM The Chilahati Express arrived. We felt so relieved. We jumped upon the train and found seats. It was 8 PM when the train left the station. I sat next to the window to look outside. The train moved, and the station lights slowly disappeared, the night became quiet. There was faint lights in the distance and empty field not a bad thing. Train started rocking gently.
Later, my nephew fell asleep and the adults talked until we all dozed off. It was already 5 AM when the train reached the Saidpur Station. Morning was quite cool, but there was still no light from the sky.
From there, we took my brother’s car to Dinajpur. In the empty roads and with the chilly morning air, travelling was a pleasure. We reached home at 6:15 AM. We felt relaxed and happy as we all entered the house. We sat sipping tea and talking, my sister in law had made tea for us.
What I Learned:
This trip taught me it’s ok to be PATIENT. It is sometimes the journey pays more dividends than the destination. Because it allows for time with loved ones, and to make memories. That train journey for me always will be a special and sweet memory.
