Tell your story#6(A surprise gift)

What happened

Yesterday 25th of July, 2024, I came home from work and my neighbor gave me a black leader inside the leader I saw a new wrapper that had been sewed already, she told me that a woman had given it to her to give me, and she don't know the woman, she told me that she asked the woman in case if I come who will she say that gave the cloth but the woman told her that she should not worry, that she's going to call me.

I collected the leader and was waiting for the woman's call but I didn't see any call and the clothes had been already sewn, so I didn't know what to do and I was confused.

Today 26th of July, 2024, I saw a call on my phone and it was my boss at my place of work, I received the call, I greeted her and said she responded how are am I I said I fine ma, she asked if I have seen her message yesterday, that she was the one that brought the cloth yesterday.

She said to me that the clothes were for me, that she gifted me the clothes just to show her appreciation to me for being a good staff to her, and that she is very impressed with me for being a hardworking and dedicated to the office of work.

My boss is an Indigenous of Nasarawa State and a health worker, she's currently running her master's degree at Kano State University of Nigeria, most of the work in the office I have been the one doing them while Is in school, also there are meetings that she supposed to be attending but I've been the one representing her, the weekly and the monthly reports, I have been the one doing them and I've never complained for one day even as the work is sometimes tough for me but I make sure that I did it wholeheartedly.

Each time my boss came back from school, she always came to the office and checked all the activities in the office and she always saw that everything was going fine.

Yesterday, she decided to gift me a wrapper, and apart from the wrapper, she asked me to send her my account number and she transferred 10,000 naira into my bank account.

There was a particular day that my boss came to the office, she brought this particular wrapper that she gifted me, the wrappers were four in number and she asked me to choose any of the wrappers that she wanted to buy the wrapper for her daughter and she doesn't know the one to choose, I choose this particular one that she brought for me, she also asked me if I have Styles on my phone, I told her that yes I have sewing styles on my phone. I opened my phone and showed her most of the styles that I have on my phone and she said all the styles were very beautiful

Again, she asked that I should choose any one of the styles that I wanted, a style that would be good and would match the wrapper I was surprised and I was like why is this woman doing this?

I showed her this particular style that she sewed on the wrapper, the next thing was that I saw a tailor in the office, the tailor brought some clothes that she gave him to sew, the Tailor opened the clothes, showed her and she tested all of them and the clothes were very okay, she asked me if I love the pattern of his sewing and I said yes, I told her that her Tailor is a professional tailor and she asked me if I would love her to give him this particular wrapper and I was like this wrapper is not my own, maybe you should call your daughters and ask her, she said it's me that she wants me to give her the style, that she only wants to surprise her daughter, I agreed and I showed the tailor this particular Style.

After I showed the style to the tailor, she asked him to take my measurements, she said that my body size was the same as her daughter's own, I was confused at this point because I knew vividly that her daughter was very slim, I'm fatter than her daughter and at a point, I was praying inside my mind I was like "what did this woman need from me" that she's doing all this.

Unknown to me that the clothes were for me, I was so happy about it because it is not easy for someone to work under his or her superior and things will go fine.

I'm also happy that my boss appreciates my services to her, she has given me a good name and a good name is better than Riches.

What you have learned from it

What I learned was that it is good to serve your superior with honesty and sincerity, and to be dedicated to the work you are doing for in doing, it can draw good people's attention to you, people who can help to take you to a greater stage.

I have also learned dedication, loyalty, and sincerity can make a person get a good name and a good name is better than riches.
