Choices! What will it be? #79 (Law)
Introduction |
---|
Law is said to be made for the lawless, if we all live in obedience, would there be a need for the law? It may be a simple question you'll definitely get the answer as you read on. Welcome to my blog friends.
Is the Law Made for the Lawless? |
---|
Mr Roland was our school Principal through my senior secondary school. Before he was posted to the school, he was briefed in detail that the school had students who were so troublesome, lawless and stubborn. His predecessor, the principal of the school before he was posted there, was beaten up by a group of these stubborn students.
You know what? Mr Roland, himself a stubborn man, was not moved. "Comprehensive Secondary school, which had no sane students in it before I was posted there, became a place to be reckoned with. The law humbled them. Of course, no one wants to be jailed. How much more this one? I simply know what the problem is, he said to himself, that is the biggest reason why I am here." He said.
"How can students be humble when there are no laws to guide them? How can they obey rules when there are no rules? How will they obey the rules and regulations when the teachers who should live by example don't keep to their rules? Especially, according to their terms of office?" He added while flipping through the pages of his previous school's bylaws.
Firstly, Mr Roland began by drafting the school rules and regulations with his team. The rules were made to guide both the staff of the school and the students. To him, when teachers lead by example, it would be easier for the students to obey the school rules and regulations because it seemed the students were following the teachers' footsteps.
With the introduction of the new laws for students and teachers, there was a remarkable change. The new law became a guide for everyone around the school environment. No one could go beyond it because disobedience or defaulting, in any way, would lead to being punished according to the law.
By the Story, the Importance of law. |
---|
A law is a body of rules and regulations which guides a society. The law is meant to guide the behaviour of people within its confines. A lawful society is seen in the behaviour of its people. They're disciplined, obedient and respectful. No one dares go above or below the law, they are all equal because the law makes it so. Such a society will be said to have obeyed "the rule of law."
On the other hand, when it comes to a lawless society, it is also seen in the behaviour of its people, because they have nothing as a guide for them. Such a society is usually characterised by lawlessness, conflict and crimes.
My personal Experience |
---|
In my little experience in life, I have observed that humans find it difficult to keep to the law. No matter how flexible or rigid the law of a place or institution maybe, you'll find people still defaulting against it. This is because disobedience is in the nature of man from the beginning of time. The Bible story of the fall of man, (Adam and Eve) in the book Genesis.
A law was set, "do not," but since man ( Eve) was insatiable, she decided to give trial. And so, disobedience then sank in and began to spread till today.
"Obedience, they say, is better than sacrifice," would you rather disobey the law and face the wrath of the law or be obedient and live freely? I have always kept to the law. I detest going against any rules and regulations. I'm not sure if I have been found wanting in defaulting any law. Have you ever defaulted against it? I'd love to read about it.

Being obedient is better but for some people it is quite a big deal to just live by the laws governing thr society.
Your writing is so nice.
All the best dear.
Thank you for the support.
It is true what you are saying, there are a lot of people who find it difficult to be obedient to the laws. This I have seen happening not only in my country but across the world.
I cannot help but wonder if the death penalty was a must across all nations.
Thank you for taking part. Just remember that this contest ends on Monday.
Best wishes!
You're right, even when people knows the consequences of their actions, they still don't obey.
Death penalty would've been seen as the only way out to curtail the rate of crimes and lawlessness, countries may have copied from each other.
My husband and I actullay had a discussion about this last night.
A guy who committed 6 murders was let out on parole?
In our eyes it is not right. They should rot in jail.
What? Of course, such people shouldn't see the light of the day, they should rot in jail. So those he has killed will just die without fair justice? Wow!
