This is a very Emotional story for me, last month, we had issues with our light. The power supply was interrupted for a long time.

During this period everyone has to look for analternatives for power supply or better still to charge up our appliances. While we hope the light would be restored soon.

In my own case, we had a generator set, so it wasn't much of a trouble for me, we would always power up at night, to charge up our appliances and also do others things.
Our generator runs for at least 6 hours everyday.

Just because we power our generator, everyday day, our neighbors comes around to charge up their phones and power banks, but mummy chisom like I fundly call her, was most regularly.
She comes everyday to charge and I make sure I save up some space for her to charge her stuff.

She would come and most times leave her stuff behind. I would help unplug them when our generator goes off and also take to her the next morning.
We became close for that reason. I was beginning to like and enjoy her company.

This continued for a week or two, until on faithful day.
She came to my house and requested for her extension sockets, I was shocked. I told her, I had not seen it. She asked me to check for it in my house because she had be looking for it.

After searching my house, I told her I couldn't find it. It surprised me to see her still insisting I look for her extension.
According to her, she said she had not taken it anywhere else apart from my place, and if the extension should be anywhere it would be my house aside hers.

At this point I did not know what to believe, is she calling me a thief? As I was still trying to understand what she meant by her statement, she made it crystal clear what she meant by asking me to give her her extension or she would deal with me by all means possible. I tried talking to her but she was so such I was with it. What gave her such assurance that made her call me a thief was what I could not understand.

As I noticed things where beginning to get out of hand and people where gathering to know what the shouting was for.

I just smiled and walked out on her. Maybe she is in a bad mood or something. I just did not what to accept the reality of things.
After two days, she came to me again this time angrier. With her same exact words "where is my extension socket. At that moment, I almost lost it.

I just stood there and stared at her with so much pain in my heart. I wanted to ask her how much was the extension so I could pay for it and save myself this embarrassment, but on a second thought it would mean i really took it.

When she was done talking she left. I immediately call my husband on phone and told him everything. He was angry with me for not telling him all this from day one. He still asked me to ignore her, until she goes physical with me, then he would take it up from there.

I did my best to ignore and avoid her because she came for trouble.
We had no contact or communication until yesterday morning.
She came to my house. When I opened my door and saw her standing outside my house, I was surprised but at the same time, I expected her to start with the usual "where is my extension" .

To my surprise she requested I permit her to come in, well I did give her permission to come in.
Immediately she stepped into the house, the first word she altered was. Am so sorry for everything.

I was curious to know what she was really sorry for. She began to narrate how she mistakenly took the extension to her friends house and left it there.
She said her friend sent her son to bring the extension back as she suspected it has been forgotten.

I did not know how to react. I just replied her okay, it's okay and she left my house.

Today, she came with a peace offerings. She brought me some liquid soap she had made in her house, still apologizing for her she reacted and treated me the whole time.

lessons I learnt

  • You reaction is not always needed at all time. You self control and emotional intelligence is a very powerful tool in our day to day activity

  • You can never predict the intention of anybody. You can only hope, someone is nice and good. People can really change at the slightest provocation.

  • Some people are ungrateful but that should not stop you from being nice any good to people.

You can also add yours, after reading my story, what are the lessons you learnt because I believe we all see things differently.

Also I would love get an advice from you too.
How should I relate with her from henceforth and do you think I handled the situation well or better still what would you have done differently if you where in my shoes.

I would also love to invite few friends to participate in this amazing contest organized by @ruthjoe.

It is a situation that could happen between neighbours and actually it is not very uncommon. I think you managed that very well. I am glad that your neighbour found her extension and I think she recognised her mistake. Thank you for your story :)

Thank you for participating…..

This story really touched my heart. It is moving to see how a challenging situation like a power outage can lead to unexpected connections and relationships. Your kindness in helping your neighbor charge her devices not only eased her situation but also created a meaningful bond between you.
