# UNEXPECTED OCCURANCE- My Story

in Steem For Ladies8 days ago (edited)

Hello beautiful steemians, greetings to you all.
It's been few days. I had to deal with an unforseen occurrence beyond me. I'd like to talk about it today. I'll narrate the whole day's activity and how it made me feel.
Ah I'm sounding like it's something so deep, it's not that deep please. It's just my mobile device.

What Happened?

Earlier in the week, my brother and I went on a one week visit to my sister and husband's house.
Okay so on 29:06:24 my phone slipped into water. Yes, slipped cause it was an accident. My woes started the night before, while trying to post a comment on a post of a steemian I realized that I've ran out of data so I decided to buy from my bank using the bank app and unfortunately I ended up sending to another person's number because I didn't checked the number properly just the name of the network. With the annoyance and disappointment, I called it a night.
The next day I woke up, and I thought of starting the day with seeing a movie on my phone before going out to purchase airtime or data. So while watching the movie I felt pressed and went to use the restroom. To avoid inconvenience and still enjoy the movie, I dropped the phone on top of the water scoop in a bridge pattern. Now this scoop was filled with water and I didn't realize it was unstable. So when I was done and wanted to pick my phone I saw that the phone had slid inside the water scoop with water inside. Chai! So as the phone slid into the water, half of it, the lower part where the charging port, earphone plug and mouthpiece is was in the water. "Ahhhhhh" I screamed and quickly took the phone out since the movie was still playing, I pressed the power button to lock the screen, and held it vertically while shaking to remove the water. I washed my hand and quickly left the rest room worried. Got to the room and told my siblings "my phone has entered water." I pressed the power button to on the screen light but this time it was blank "hei" panic started I had to reboot the phone before the screen light came on and I noticed that the water had soaked a part of the phone more like the phone is water absorbent.
In the heat of my dilemma, I was told to take the phone to dry under the sun so as to dry out the water. I didn't even think twice on the suggestion, I quickly took the phone out to dry.
Did I mentioned that this happened in the early hours of the morning? Yes. So that means the sun wasn't out yet so I kept it out hoping that there'll be sun and not rain. The heavens answered cause the sun that day was hot.

How did I React Initially

Initially, I wasn't bothered, I remember telling my siblings and brother in-law, "It's just phone, I can always get another if it misbehaves, nothing is going to happen." I proceed with the days activity, subconsciously I was worried about the phone but I didn't let it get to me. Occasionally, I'll go check on the phone till I felt sleepy and I gave in. In between my nap I remembered that the phone is still outside I quickly stood up from the bed looked outside through the closed window which gave an illusion of gloominess just to go outside to see the sun shinning bright and hot. At that point, I knew that something will be wrong.

My Final Reaction

When I picked the phone, it was hot and I switched it on immediately. The phone came on, and then it started shaking and then vertical lines and it went blank. I pressed the power button and was able to turn off the phone and then I put it back on still blank. "Ahhhhhh..." I screamed and realization hit me, the sun shouldn't had been an option but it was already too late...
At the moment I remembered there are people who specializes on phone repairs and maintenance. I got dressed and was about heading out to go in search of a technician around the vicinity but I was convinced by my brother in-law to give it to a trusted person and he made a referral that was affirmed by his wife.
So I went back in, and laid down to think of my situation till sleep took me.
When I woke up, Sis was preparing dinner of melon soup(afere ikon) so I joined her in the preparation. It was around 4pm. I didn't have lunch that day because I slept through it and I didn't even have any appetite. While preparing the meal I'd sigh deeply or inhale and exhale deeply. And each of it got me "sorry" from the family. My thoughts ran haywire, thought of the new platform I just joined (steemit), thought of the movie that caused me my phone that I didn't even get to finish, thought of other activities that I use my phone to do, the what if and had I known tormented me. I didn't realize that my phone is so dear to me until the incident and I wished I had a backup phone for such situations. I sighed till the food was ready. And when it was ready, I ate. I mean I need strength to mourn🙃 right. But happiness was far from me I didn't enjoy any activity.
While in the living room, my siblings and brother in-law will bring up interesting conversations just to get my mind off the situation but coincidentally, I always had a way of connecting it to my phone. I only realized it when my brother in-law told me to take my mind off the phone and stop making every conversation about it. I even thought of worst case scenario just to comfort myself.

I bet I looked worse than this

Did I Get Comforted

So I started feeling a bit better towards evening when I had unconsciously hugged the throw pillow. When I realized myself, I still continued with the action as it gave me a little comfort and gave in to the distraction which was still conversation and short videos and also me braiding my sister's hair later on with no hair attachment just her natural hair. Till around pass 8pm when retired to sleep.

Experience and Lesson Learnt

I had intended to share some useful tips I later learnt that can help if such incident happen but I feel this post it's already lengthy so I'll do that another time... And I'll also share how I got the phone fixed and how I felt. For now, since it's past, i don't mind sharing my ordeal.
My experience made me realize that often times, we attach emotional sentiment to materialistic things and gets so worried when it misbehaves. But materialistic things is nothing compared to life though it's makes life comfortable.

Unfortunately I do not have original pictures showing how I looked that day and every other things expressed in the writing.

Oh, this is a very beautiful story, why didn't you join this contest Tell your story it's a weekly contest where you can share stories like this. I'm sorry for you phone and when next you see someone with such experience, tell the person to open up the phone and put it right inside a bag or bucket filled with raw rice... It worked for me so I thought to share.

OMG!
Thank you @ninapenda for the suggestion, had I known, it would had worked for me too.
I wish I saw the contest earlier, I wasn't aware of such contest. I'm interested already I've got lots of stories.
From what I see, my post has the criteria needed for the contest. Hopefully I can use the continuation of the story to join the next contest. Will that be accepted?

The raw rice remedy you suggested to @lusciouslucy is true and raw rice is readily available. There is an even better option.

That small paper bag that is commonly found in packaging, containing some grains or small objects. It is called a "desiccant packet" or "silica gel packet."

These small bags are there to suck out all moisture and keep the product dry at all time, it contains contain materials like silica gel, calcium chloride, or activated charcoal, which absorb moisture and help maintain a dry environment.

So gey a munber of this bags, put it in a box and put the device in the box and close the box [Remember to remove the battery].

Depending on how many bags you can get, it will sick out all the water from inside the phone. Call this process First Aid for a drowning phone

The problem with this method I the fact that those bags are not always available.
