Tell your story#26(An unforgettable Gift wrapped in swaddling clothes.)
The year was 2012, and I had been having toothaches back to back. I had gone for a mouth wash but to no avail. The only solution would be to extract the decayed tooth.
So my mum and I set out for the federal medical center in my city but as whatever spirits wanted it, the dental doctors were not on sit. I was told to come back the next day, but the pain was too excruciating that that option was not possible.
I was then referred to a private hospital owned by one of their doctors.
Off we went. When we got to the hospital, we met the doctor and had to pay ×3 to have him attend to me.
I was taken into his theatre, given an Anastasia on my jaw to numb the area so I would not feel the pain. After he was sure I felt nothing anymore, the tooth was pulled off.
All I felt was a heavy lifting from my jaw but the pain was not there. Alas, I didn't know he pulled out more than my tooth.
As soon as I stepped out of the theatre and walked back to my mum, I fainted.
According to my mum, she said I stopped breathing and was unconscious. This caused so much confusion and tension as no one knew what went wrong. The doctor and nurses were running around but still didn't know what to do to me as I couldn't be given any medication or injection as the reason to why I fainted and was unconscious was unknown.
You can imagine the emotional trauma my mum went through holding me in her arms while life slipped away from me, all the while praying that she doesn't lose her child.
Finally they were able to revive me after several minutes had passed by. You could see the look of relief on the doctor's face.
- Do I know why that incident happened??
Till today I do not, but that episode has made me see and value life the more and be greatful for the moment.
This is because at the time of the incident, nothing else mattered other than bringing me back to life.
Thinking back on this story makes me remember the faithfulness of God and I always look forward to this time of the year again as I reminisce.
