Power Up Contest: WK6 - Catching dolphin #11

in Steem For Ladies8 days ago

Here I am back again!

Not only participating in my teammate's contest but also back with another reward, my eleventh dolphin.

For this contest, we must share some tips. So, let's start with it.

Just this morning, I was asked by a fellow Steemian how I get it right to multitask. I could have told him that, as a female, I can multitask, but unfortunately, that is not the answer. Multitasking may seem like a valuable skill only women possess, but the reality is that multitasking is actually quite difficult for most people. Our majestic organ, the brain, is simply not wired to focus on processing multiple complex tasks simultaneously. Not even to mention efficiently.

There are so many things that can influence our “getting the job done” that make multitasking even more difficult. Most of our brains cannot shift back and forth between tasks, which often leads to being anxious, which leads to frustration, and then to getting less done. Our circumstances, stress, surroundings, distractions, and so much more play a vital part in completing tasks.

My dear friends, most of the time I don’t multitask. I do single-tasking. Multitasking is for those easy jobs, like making coffee while I am stirring the pot on the stove. Feeding the dogs while I speak to my daughter on the phone.
A task that needs your full attention cannot be done with multitasking. It can only be done with one thing, prioritizing.

I have my “black book,” in which I write my “to-do’s” for the day. After I have written them down, I prioritize them. I have seen that, with the number of years I’ve been doing this, I know by now which tasks must come first and last. As I’ve told you, our brains are wonderful organs. Once I have prioritized the tasks, I put grease to the elbow and concentrate on getting the tasks done one by one. If there are plenty of tasks, I will make sure that I take a break just to recharge my battery again.

Each task I finish, I tick with a thick red pen. You will be amazed at what those red marks can do for your mood. It must be a reminder for me of when I was at school and the teacher handed me my exam paper with all the red ticks. Mission accomplish!

It is 5 easy steps you have to follow.

  1. Write it down
  2. Prioritize
  3. Concentrate
  4. Take a break
  5. Reward yourself

Now over to Steemit. Do I multi-task on Steemit? Nope. I cannot. Make no mistake; I’ve tried, but it just doesn’t work. Well, not for me. I have to concentrate on one task at a time. What I will do is take breaks from tasks. For example, I will be on my blog answering comments, etc., and then I will move over to the community work just to return to my blog later again. I have found that this stops me from finding a certain task boring.

Let’s take curating as another example. Reading post after post and checking all of them for plagiarism, AI, and the rest for hours at a time does get frustrating if you don’t take a break. Often, it is with my return from a break that I discover that I’ve missed a fantastic post earlier on. Finding posts like this is a great reward on its own. They are those red ticks.

A task you can definitely not multitask is catching those dolphins. Nope, you can only catch them stroke by stroke. You have to write quality posts, you have to vote on the posts of your fellow Steemians, you have to comment on the posts of your fellow Steemians, and you have to power up to make it easier.

Congratulations on becoming the "eleventh dolphin," bravo! 🐬🎉

I believe many of us aren't natural multitaskers, and I count myself among them.

Maybe your fellow Steemian was asked for a reason how you manage your time because they might amazed at how you, as a lady, juggle so many responsibilities in a day. Writing your own blog posts, managing a community as an owner, reviewing, engaging through comments, working as a curator, setting schedules and what not,—these are no small feats. Plus, you handle social activities and family duties no doubt, which can be surprising to many. 💪

It’s understandable that someone might wonder how you keep up with all these activities while maintaining your energy and efficiency.

Honestly, if I were in a similar situation, I would feel overwhelmed and lazy before even starting a single task. 😅 My cousin once told me that he admires how I set targets and don’t give up until they are achieved. However, when I ask myself the same question, my body often responds with, "Nope, you’re a lazy, less energetic guy, and you can’t afford it." And I think i’m right. 😔

Nah! You are not lazy.
Do you know the song 99 Red Balloons by Nena?
You should listen to it.

Ninety-nine dreams I have had
In every one, a red balloon
It's all over, and I'm standin' pretty
In the dust that was a city
If I could find a souvenir
Just to prove the world was here
Then here it is, a red balloon
I think of you and let it go

Just let those tasks float by one by one and tick them off with that red pen! (•ิ‿•ิ)

You are so right! When you have a family, you always put yourself last.
I will always think about their needs, where I can support and help them. In the morning, I am the first to get up, and at night, I am the last to put my head on the pillow.
What I have learned is to reward myself. It might just be that last cup of tea before I go to bed or raising my feet watching my soapie during the day and after a curating session.

They say that dynamite comes in small packages. Well, so does rewarding yourself.
Good luck!

PS: Look after yourself, nobody else will. 🎕
