Different blood tests are used to assist the healthcare provider in identifying underlying health conditions which include organ failure, Human Immuned Virus (HIV), diabetes, vitamin deficiencies, anemia and lots more.

Healthcare providers use various blood tests to study and analyze the behavior of substances like certain chemicals in the blood, proteins, or cells. These tests can help the healthcare provider in determining the health status of different organs in the body. Even when an individual is not sick, certain blood test can help detect if one is at risk of developing any health conditions in later years.

Some important blood test

1. Complete Blood Count (CBC): This is also referred to as full blood count. This type of blood test checks and measure important components such as red blood cell count, white blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelet level. This test can be used in diagnosing and monitoring several health conditions like leukemia, anemia as well as infections. It can also be used in monitoring treatments or some chronic health conditions that could affect the blood count.

1. Basic Metabolic Panel: This type of blood test usually check for the levels of 8 components in the body: glucose, calcium, sodium, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), potassium, bicarbonate, chloride and creatinine.
   Before this test is carried out, the individual is expected to fast for at least 8 hours before blood sample is being collected. This also dependent on the instructions of the healthcare provider's and the rest to be carried out. Abnormal result in this test could indicate a kidney disease, diabetes or electrolyte imbalances.

1. Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP): This type of blood test includes all the tests in Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP) as well as other additional tests such as protein tests and liver function tests. Abnormal results from this test could be an indication of a disease condition like liver cirrhosis, hepatitis, liver cancer, liver damage, abnormal red blood cell destruction, heart conditions, bike duct blockage, gallbladder inflammation, gallstones.

4. Lipid Profiling: This blood test usually check for two major type of cholesterol; High-density Lipoprotein (HDL) which is regarded as a good cholesterol and Low-density Lipoprotein (LDL) which is regarded as a bad cholesterol. High-density Lipoprotein is regarded as a good cholesterol because it removes harmful substances from the blood and aids the liver breaking down waste. Low-density Lipoprotein on the other hand is regarded as a bad cholesterol because it causes blockage in the arteries which places one at the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.

5. Sexually Transmitted Infection Test: Blood test can also be used to diagnose for several sexually Transmitted infections such as HIV, herpes, hepatitis C, Syphilis. More often, these tests are combined with swabs and urine samples for more accurate results.
