One of the primary things we can do in order to lead a happy and fulfilling life, is to improve our health. This is easy done by not only focus on avoiding diseases, but being able to prosper in everything we undertake. As part of the Steemit Learning Challenge, I managed to ponder on the little details that encourage us to be at our best on a daily basis.
Start with Your Diet
Health is important and eating balanced diets is the first step. Rather, concentrate on eating nutritious foods in their natural form. Add in lots of vegetables, fruits, sprouted whole grains, white meats, and good oils such as nuts, olive oil, and others. In addition, ensure that you keep drinking enough water throughout the day, your body needs it.
It is also crucial to reduce the intake of meals such as processed food, sugar, and unhealthy snacks. These are usually packed with empty calories, yet contain little to no nutrition. Rather, try preparing your own meals more often. This will not only cut costs, but it also gives you a measure of authority over your food. Eating with awareness and on purpose – attending to eating and noticing hunger and fullness signals may also reduce the chances of over consuming food.
Get Moving
No matter how you look at it, staying fit by exercising regularly should always be a priority. Aim for more than 30 minutes of moderate work out on most days during the week. Physical activities like walking, cycling, dancing among others are good serves. If you feel energetic try and incorporate muscle training exercises a few times a week, it will help you gain muscle and strengthen your bones.
Finding what you love is the magic potion. After all, when you come to think about it, if workouts are fun, you will be motivated to do it every day but if they feel like an obligation, then that might discourage you. Replacing the elevator with the stairs or parking away from the mall are all gradually progressive changes that result in significant overall development overtime.
Prioritize Your Sleep
Sleep is an aspect that should never be taken for granted and instead valued highly. It acts as a means for your body to recuperate and re-energize. Aim to have 7 to 9 hours of good quality sleep every night. Ensure that you sleep at the same time every day even if it’s a weekend. Furthermore, prepare your body for bedtime by engaging in calming activities such as dimming the lights, reading or meditating.
Make it a point to not use your phone, computer, or watch television one hour before you sleep as the blue light emitted by these devices can cause disruptions in your sleep schedule. If you find yourself struggling to fall asleep, then it is best to seek the help of a physician or a sleep expert.
Manage Stress
Stress is one aspect that we all have to face in life, but what matters most is how we deal with it. Make yourself some time to practice some stress-relieving exercises like meditation, deep breathing or yoga. These can relax your mind and help you improve overall.
Take time off for things that give you pleasure, whether it is reading, painting, or being with family. If life is becoming overwhelming, don’t hold back from seeking support from friends, family or a therapist. Connections with other people are essential for our health.
Stay on Top of Preventive Care
Your doctor is the only one who can diagnose, so it is important to make sure you are going in for regular check-ups with him. Early detection and intervention is important, these conditions become easier to treat when dealt with earlier. If you had heart diseases, hypertension or cancer, you should consider updating your immunizations and these screenings even blood pressure, and cholesterol.
On the other hand, if you lead a lifestyle that includes chronic diseases or high blood pressure, for example, your health practitioner should definitely assist you in monitoring it. Do not forget about proper hygiene practices for education purposes, because regular hand washing can also be helpful.
Avoid Harmful Habits
If you smoke, try to give it up. Smoking is harmful to just about all organs of the body and becomes a primary risk factor for many chronic diseases. Also, try to limit alcohol intake as too much can cause stress to the liver and more health complications.
Be very careful with medications. Stick to the instructions written on the label or those directed by the doctor and, refrain from taking over-the-counter medicines or any other form of supplements unless prescribed by your doctor.
Keep Your Mind Sharp
Menal Health holds the same importance as any physical health. Try doing activities that stress the brain such as puzzles, acquiring knowledge of something new or reading. Also, socializing helps your brain functions better and eases the feeling of solitude.
Embrace Gratitude and Positivity
At the end, develop the right attitude. Take a few moments every day and think about things that you are thankful for. This simple practice can help change your outlook towards life leading to an increase in happiness levels. Be with those who inspire and motivate you to pursue your ambitions.
Takeaway
Health optimization may seem like a daunting task but it can be approached gradually. If you start small, pick one thing to focus on at a time, and build on it step by step. It is important to keep in mind that health is something that will always be worked on. The more you make these changes part of your lifestyle, the more energetic, fun, and meaningful your life can be. You've got this!
If you follow all these things, you can improve your health.
