Health Matters (17); ANTIBIOTICS AND OUR HEALTH
How do antibiotics help us fight infections?
Antibiotics are drugs that are very much needed when we have wounds, because antibiotics themselves can help us fight infections by stopping the growth of bacteria and antibiotics also play a role in killing bacteria in wounds.
And someone will need antibiotics if the body's immunity is no longer strong enough to destroy the bacteria in the wound they are experiencing.
What are the side effects of taking antibiotics?
In addition to having positive effects, using antibiotics also has several negative side effects that will be experienced by people who use them, such as nausea, diarrhea, fungal infections and rashes. Then more serious side effects can also be Clostridioides difficile infections, which cause severe diarrhea that causes damage to the large intestine and death. Then someone can also experience severe and life-threatening allergies.
Therefore, people who want to use antibiotics should have a doctor's prescription.
Why is antibiotic resistance a problem, and how can we avoid it?
Here are some ways to prevent antibiotic resistance:
Only use antibiotics when recommended by a doctor and by a professional medical expert.
Do not ask for antibiotics if not recommended by a doctor
Must always follow the advice of medical experts in contacting antibiotics
Never consume leftover antibiotics
Do antibiotics affect our immune system?
According to information from several sources that I read, antibiotics can indeed affect our immune system because antibiotics encourage changes in the ecology of microbes that have caused changes in the immune response to vaccines and pathogens.
However, by consuming healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, controlling stress, getting enough sleep and implementing several other good health methods we can restore healthy intestinal flora after taking antibiotics.
Can we treat diseases without using antibiotics?
Of course you can, according to an explanation from a Doctor "Bacterial or even viral infections can heal on their own without antibiotics, especially if we have a strong immune system".
How can we use antibiotics responsibly?
In my opinion there is only one way for us to use antibiotics responsibly, the way is to use antibiotics with a doctor's prescription, without a doctor's prescription never use antibiotics because it will make us get negative effects that we never want.
