Anorexia

• What is anorexia?
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that's primarily characterized by nutrition deprivation. Essentially a person restricts their food intake to the point where their body is so deprived that it enters into a starvation mode.
People picture someone who looks like they have an eating disorder, they picture a young white cisgender female who's visibly underweight heterosexual and able-bodied this does account for a lot of people with eating disorders but it's far from the majority. The fact is that eating disorders affect people across identities. They affect people of every race every gender every ability every body size every age and they don't discriminate because of this false stereotype. A lot of people with eating disorders go undiagnosed they can't even imagine that they could have a problem because they don't look like what they think.
Obsession and rigidity about what you're eating and making sure you only eat specific things is really dangerous and it often leads to anorexia nervosa so it's important to practice flexibility to understand that there's actually no such thing as good foods and bad foods that all foods fit and that your body
• Causes of anorexia?
Needs calories in order to live, anorexia is actually one of the most researched eating disorders and researchers disagree about what causes an eating disorder. One thing we do know is that for many people it is a brain-based illness and in a lot of cases it's actually genetic if a person has a predisposition to developing anorexia like their genetics or the brain is wired in a way that sets it up for anorexia nervosa sometimes all it takes is a triggering event to Onset.
• Treatment of anorexia?
Certain foods because anorexia nervosa has so many medical complications. It's important that you ask for help sooner rather than later. I know it might feel like your restriction or your control over your food is one of the only things that makes you feel safe but it's really important that you dare to let go of that belief so that you might live and thrive and have connection with the people that you care about tell a friend that you're struggling to reach out to a a trusted adult or if you don't feel safe talking to someone in your direct life there are helplines available.
