Health Matters; (Genes and Genetics)
Greetings friends
The eye of the viewer can easily detect how similar I look like my dad, at a tender age, an age at which I can distinguish good from evil, I find it very difficult to go out with most friends not because what they did was evil but I was afraid of that person who will cite me from far and say is that not John's son, fear grips me often how perfect these people were able to recognise me from the far and most time they don't even know me but on an encounter with most of them they will say are you, not John's son, I can't deny this because I wasn't trained to lie, "yes I am" won't attract any punishment, but what if that person comes across my parent some other time and say I saw your child catching grasshopper in the field with no intention to get me into a problem and that day was when mum or dad instructed me not to go out, I will be in soup, a hot one I mean.
What makes you unique, like having your mom's eyes or your dad's smile?
Don't be surprised if I say our skull structure is alike; maybe that is why most people recognise me so quickly; the skull structure looks even more alike now that I have grown to be a young adult. Another similarity is the wrinkle in my chicks when I ever smile, and my eye position is also the same as his. Whenever you see me, you see Dad.
Why do some diseases run in families, like diabetes or heart conditions?
From my little biological knowledge, I believe if this type of disease is found in families it may be as a result of gene combination, and I know the main cause of diabetes is the inability of insulin to synthesise glucose into blood-absorbable material, and for this reason, some changes in genes as a result of combination can lead to this effect as well.
Most times, attentiveness to the type of food consumed by the body may be another factor, and that can also be categorised as an environmental factor or family lifestyle because poor-background families consume what they like or what is mostly accessible.
I have a pre-knowledge of mutation as the sudden change of DNA, but medically or scientifically, I don't know how this change is initiated, even if it is spontaneous. I know always there is a factor that causes change, and if this change occurs, I believe a member of a particular family may be prone to a disease that will affect the heart condition.
How do genes decide things like hair colour, eye colour, or even how tall you'll be?
Have you ever seen an albino with black hair or an African with extremely curly hair? An albino can never come with black hair because genes affect melanin production, which in turn affects the colour of the hair, so we can say the colour of the hair or eye is determined by the quality of melanin produced. It's obvious that an albino's Melanin quality is low.
Have you heard about DNA testing? How can it reveal your ancestry or health risks?
The DNA testing that I have heard of as a biology student has something to do with a test with the hair and also a chromosomal test. Since the DNA is residence in the chromosome, the chromosomes could be tested to trace how related the recessive or dominant gene is with ancestors, and this can also make some of the health conditions dominant or recessed till the next generation.
