Hello Stemians, Hello Steemit Philippines!

As one of the judges of #steemitphilippines contests, I used to be so preoccupied every Sunday as I have to read all entries of our weekly contest, and for this week I had read, evaluated, and graded 67 fantastic entries from excellent authors from all over the Philippines.

I was so taken aback and intrigued by some of the submissions that I couldn't help but award them a perfect score. They had picked a beautiful photo and written an inspiring and educational piece that was relevant to the theme.

However, there are some aspects that I believe need to be improved in order to have a good chance of winning the competition. Although I also found great works/entries where I used to give a whopping 9.5 score to a perfect score of 10, I will feature some of those blogs to serve as an example.

This blog will go over some fundamental suggestions for refining your material, with emphasis on your submission to the #steemitphilippines Photography contest. Please bear in mind that this is just my viewpoint; I am not speaking for the other #steemitphilippines judges, each of whom has its own set of criteria for selecting a winner.

SIMPLE TIPS:

1. PHOTO

Since this is a Photography Contest, the first thing that I used to check as a judge in your content is the photo. You need to select the best photo you have for the contest. If I am fascinated with the photo you used in your blog, you will already have a big chance to get a high score from me.

Avoid using blurry photographs or anything that has nothing to do with the week’s topic or theme. Or when you choose a particular photo, you need to relate it to the topic.

Sometimes I see great content with a very striking story but the photo used is not clear, in such case you will only get a little score from me.

2. STORY

As explained in the mechanics of the contest, you need to make a story that would relate to your photo. I’m sorry but I don’t really appreciate that much, a story-telling-like post wherein you will just simply narrate or explain what happens. You must go deeper into what had transpired when the photo was captured.

It is better if you create a compelling story, focusing on a story of a life that could somehow be applicable to all, I mean a story that a lot of people may be able to relate to. How to do that? Talk about life in general, then talk about people, about experiences, about dreams, and so on.

It is also good if you include some realization you learned from the experience you had. This will also connect to your readers and will attract a lot of people.

For me talking too much about your personal life is not that effective, although you can include it in your post but only just a part of it. But of course, you can do what you want, again this is just my suggestion.

3. TITLE

I believe that the title of your article conveys the whole message that you want to impart to your readers. Use concise and stunning words that will pique the reader’s interest. Honestly, before I give my verdict, I check the title first.

Use a one-word title only if the word is powerful enough to convey the entire message of your article. As previously stated, you are free to use your own based on your preferences; you have the right to do so; mine is simply a suggestion.
So far those are the things that for me are essential in order to get a high chance to win in a short writing contest like our very own #steemitphilipines Photography contest.

Of course, you also need to abide with the criteria set and supplied in the contest post:

PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST CRITERIA FOR JUDGING
Judges: @loloy2020, @fycee, @juichi, @long888

1 Relevance to the Theme (How well the photo interprets the theme.
2 Creativity (How the photographer showed some creative thoughts.
3 Technique (Use of elements of photography. Whether the photo showed balance in light, focus, depth of field, etc.
4 Overall impact (Whether the photo was able to grab and hold the viewers’ attention.
5 Story behind the Photo which means the story will coincide with the photo.

And for your entry not to be disqualified please take note of the following rules as conveyed in the contest post, like the use of proper tags and the number of words requirement.

PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST RULES TO FOLLOW

1 THEME OF THE WEEK: BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY (Using black and white photography as a medium, show us your originality and creativity. Why not create something that is currently happening in your life, such as a pandemic or anything else.) Note: It should be current events, not a throwback.

2 Must be Fully Verified Member of Steemit Philippines Community. Here's how the Verification Process works: https://steemit.com/hive-169461/@loloy2020/steemit-philippines-community-s-new-verification-process-07-20-2021

3 Set @steemitphcurator as 10% Beneficiary

4 Must start with the title "Steemit Philippines Photography Contest Week #4 - Black and White Photography : (Name of Your Photo)"

5 Must have to post on the Steemit Philippines Community. https://steemit.com/trending/hive-169461

6 Must be at least 300 words per post that describe your Photo (Either Tagalog or English)

7 Just share only 1 photo per post which is the best photo of your choice and be sure the photo is originally yours.

8 Use the tags #steemitphilippines #photography-contestph, #steemph-blacknwhite #blacknwhite-photography and #steemexclusive in the first five tags in the posts. Having #steemexclusive tag means it is not allowed to repost it to other communities or even other platforms as it is a form of plagiarism.

9 One entry per Steemit Account per day. This means each member can have more than one entry per week depends on the deadline of submission of entries and be sure it is a different subject from the previous entry.

10 Mention 3 of your friend to join the Photography Contest Week 4.

11 Share it on your Social Media Accounts for everyone will see it. (Optional)

I think bearing in mind those points I mentioned above as well as the criteria for judging and the rule that has to be observed, you are already set to becoming the next winner of the Photography Contest or be lucky enough to be up-voted by our benefactors @booming and @steemcurator01.

So to end this blog, I would like to share a few of those wonderful entries of the Steemit Philippines Community Photography Contest Week 4 – Black and White Photography:
