Darkness - Short fantasy story

in The Ink Well4 years ago

Nausea waves, pain. Far, somewhere far away, I heard noises. I couldn't make out anything, I didn't know the language, I couldn't even tell for sure if it was a voice or whether it was birds, maybe even some other animals.

That my state of agony and moments when I came to consciousness was followed by darkness again. Each episode began and ended the same way.

Darkness, blackness and nothingness. The complete absence of everything, And I could only remember that moment when my consciousness was restored trough pain.

I felt like a being without beginning. I had no idea who I was, why I was in the condition I was in, and in what condition I was.

Waves of pain passed through my entire body, I was cramping and twisting on the damp floor I was on. And it was this pain, however intolerable it was, that brought me back to reality, however strange it may have been, allowed me to remember that I was alive. In my condition, there was no way I was going to tack passage of time. All I knew was that sweet and biter minutes of pain and agony.

It was not until a moment when it came to my mind to make the sounds clearer during one of those episodes. A sliver of greenish light above me. The sounds were still indistinguishable to me.

And dark again.

This time it was something different, I felt it through some sensations around me. I was different. The nothingness around me was still impenetrable and desolate. But this time I was aware of my being, my body. That distant pain that had awakened me so many times, He was still present. Now I felt it as just a gentle breeze. At the same time, I knew that my body was suffering a great deal of torture, somewhere, wherever it was. I had an awareness of my presence. However, I had no memories.

Unbearable pain, headache waves. Wind - I hear the wind. That green light is golden now. No voices, just the howling wind. The pain was relenting and distant, and I was still aware. My vision was still blurred and I couldn't discern anything.

And dark again.
