GRAFFITI OF MY CITY - MUMBAI
Hello Again!
This is a great way to see the world through different lenses and its great street art. This time I am going to post about my travels. This stunning graffiti is at a popular restaurant in Mumbai, India, called Cafe Mondegar. Its located in the heart of one of the bustling areas of the city called Colaba. There are many things to see and do around here which is why it is very popular with both tourists and the locals.
This restaurant started out in the 1930s as a small Irani cafe, Irani cafes are popular in Mumbai and were opened by the settlers from Iran from the Parsi community. As time moved on this cafe also constantly evolved transitioning from a cafe into a full fledged restaurant and bar. It was also the first restaurant in Mumbai to have a jukebox which also became another attraction for the locals to visit.
In the early 90s the restaurant was refurbished and the owners got a famous Indian Illustrator/Cartoonist Mario Miranda to adorn two walls of the cafe. Miranda chose two themes for this - Life in Mumbai & Atmosphere of a Cafe. These murals are still in the restaurant for people to admire and appreciate.
Both these murals are very well illustrated capturing the essence of the locals who would frequent the cafe and showcase its diversity of the population of the city. The restaurant is always crowded and very pocket friendly. Apart from the nostalgia that you feel when you enter here the food and service also is fantastic and you will always try to come back here.
Hope you'll enjoyed these artworks and the little information about one of Mumbai's most famous restaurants. Personally I can't wait to get back here again.
I invite @crisch23 @carxavi to share some stories through graffiti from their cities or travels!!
Cheers
