How can a steem user draw attention to himself in front of other users of the site?

Intro

How to be noticed on the platform? I believe many users are asking this question to themselves every day, wondering if they are making some mistakes because they are not upvoted too often by others. In fact, with such a huge community it's very easy to not be noticed even while we are having a big talent but if we are patient enough, we can change it with time.

I prepared ten pieces of advice for the new users and those who are on the platform for a long time but have never become successful. Personally, I believe those are the most important things which is worth doing, but I will gladly read the entries of other users to check if I skipped something.

1. Make good quality content and participate in the contests

Winning the contest brings plenty of attention. We are noticed by the admins and moderators of the community which organizes it and, sometimes, also by steemcurators. That usually means we gain a few STEEM for the reward, we have a chance for booming upvote and many resteems which increases our chances to get more followers.

It's a great way to start the adventure with steemit. Every day there are tens, sometimes even hundreds of active contests in which we can participate so it's really easy to find something that we are specialized in. For all the new users, I recommend following the @disconnect account. They prepare the list of active contests every day, so you can find all of them in one place without making your own time-consuming research.

2. Write the Diary Game and use proper tags

Currently, I believe the biggest chance to get the up-votes worth plenty of money is to write the Diary Game. Make it always in one community, so you can start to become recognizable and remember about the hashtags. Include tags: thediarygame, steemexclusive (this one you should always use, whenever the text you share was never published in another medias), betterlife. Then I recommend you to use one of five suggested tags, signed to the better life project:

  • learnwithsteem for any educational and informative posts and articles, teaching users something new
  • cryptoandme for any posts related to cryptocurrencies
  • mindbodyspirit for any posts related to self-care, health, improving own skills
  • growyourown for any posts garden related, growing own food, etc.
  • planetpositives for any environmental friendly, ecological posts
  • actsofkindness for any posts about charity and help to the others
  • craftycontent for any posts about the things we have made on our own, artistic, DIY

It's also good to add the hashtag with the name of the country where we live in.

3. Find something that interests you and write regularly about it

Some of the most successful users dedicated their time to become a specialist in one thing - they are preparing news about the steemit, making the newspapers for entrepreneurs, having their own communities, writing about the permaculture, or becoming recognizable because of their photos. It's worth considering finding your own niche and writing about something that is your real passion to find followers and in a long term get many upvotes.

4. Focus on few communities where you write regularly and participate in the contests in others

Although there is no harm in following many communities to be always informed what is happening on steemit and there is no harm in participating in the contests organized by different people, it might be a good thing to find two or three communities where we do feel really well and to start writing there regularly. That way it's easier to be noticed and find the users who will be interested in reading our posts. With time we can also build strong connections with them.

5. Always make your posts visually attractive

Even when the text you publish is very interesting, you may be unnoticed if you don't make it visually attractive. We are all created by the nature in a way that makes us create our first opinion about something in less than one second. If the text is not justified, photos are unattractive (especially the first one which goes on the miniature), the text is not divided into clear paragraphs, it can be skipped and people won't read it. Try to spend some extra time making your publications visually interesting.

Oh, one more thing - never plagiarize and use only your own photos or pictures on the Creative Commons license. Not everything that you will find on the Internet is free to use and if you are stealing someone's intellectual property, you won't get the vote.

6. Write every day or at least 5-6 times per week

To become recognizable, you cannot just write one post per week. Be present on the platform all the time. Only that way your nickname can become recognizable. Writing on the platform on the daily basis shows also your dedication to this project and increases your chances to be upvoted by steemcurators. Think about it that way: could you be a famous footballer or politician if you wouldn't practice your work all the time and if you wouldn't create meaningful boundaries with the people around you? The same thing is with becoming a successful writer and steemian.

7. Comment, upvote, resteem, and actively participate in the steemit community

Partially I was writing about it in the previous points. It's all about creating connections with the other users. When you comment on someone's post, that person may be interested in your publications and visit your profile, if you upvote and resteem other texts, you are not only taking from the platform but also giving something from yourself. Remember that comments should be meaningful. A simple "nice post" copied and pasted hundred times is not the real interaction, it's just spam. You should also avoid asking people for the up-votes, as it's against steemit etiquette.

8. Make power-ups and prove you are dedicated to this project

#welovepowerups and #powerupswinsvotes are not just simple tags, it's whole the philosophy. While you are making power-ups, you show that you want to stay on the platform longer, that you want it to grow and you want to participate more and more in this project, also as the curator. I understand that if you are not a popular user yet and your income is very low, you may not prioritize power-ups but spend at least a few percent of your income to grow your steem power. It increases your chances for an upvote.

9. Finish newcomers community tutorial, write in Nursery or Steemit Crypto Academy

It is very important to finish the Newcomers Community tutorial to learn all the rules and make your posts more attractive. You will have the opportunity to learn there about etiquette, basic HTML commands, power-ups, delegations, and much more. People who have finished the tutorial may have bigger chances to gain some extra funds and can apply for some positions which are not available for other users, like becoming a greeter.

If you are a new user, for the first two or three months you can publish in the steemit nursery community where you will learn how to not make any mistakes. That community allows you to get plenty of upvotes, much more than in other places so it's a great way to gain some SP capital at the start. Remember though that after few months you should leave it and give a space for other newbies.

If you can't find a way to earn the money by writing regular articles or sharing other content, you may consider taking the lessons on Steemit Crypto Academy. That community guarantees the upvotes from steemcurator02 each time when you will make the homework task which is scored for more than 50% by one of the professors. It's also a great opportunity to gain some knowledge about cryptocurrencies.

10. Promote steemit

Last but not least - talk with others, try to promote steemit and invite new users, share your publications on social media, if you have your own business, accept STEEM as the payment method. All that things may make you more recognizable. Check promosteem and promo-steem hashtags and the community which is dedicated to the promotion of the platform (it's called... surprise, surprise... Promo Steem :)
