Achievement 3 by @ ngonglanceyuh : CONTENT ETIQUETTE
Greetings to you great steemians
Today I will be talking on achievement 3 that is on plagiarism
To begin what is PLAGIARISM???
plagiarism is the presentation of someone's work (it can be an article, speech or more ) include the author's own ideas, expressions regardless of their constent By fiting it into your work and making it look as it's yours without acknowledging the author
plagiarism is now very common practice in our society today like in school where students copy the work of others not knowing thier source and also plagiarism has also been noticed in speech presentations, also in TV or radio presentations and lots more in the society.
Never the less let's go ahead to Look some various forms of plagiarism or how it is been practiced
TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
we have
PARAPHRASING plagiarism
This is, as published on Wiley, the most common type of plagiarism. It involves the use of someone else’s writing with some minor changes in the sentences and using it as one’s own. Even if the words differ, the original idea remains the same and plagiarism occurs. Because students often do not have a clear understanding of what constitutes plagiarism, there are recommendations for research and writing available to reduce the risk of paraphrasing plagiarism.source
SELF Plagiarism
Self-plagiarism occurs when a student submits his or her own previous work, or mixes parts of previous works, without permission from all professors involved. For example, it would be unacceptable to incorporate part of a term paper you wrote in high school into a paper assigned in a college course. Self-plagiarism also applies to submitting the same piece of work for assignments in different classes without previous permission from both professors.source
MOSAIC plagiarism
This type of plagiarism is a lillte bit like direct plagiarism. Occurs when a student borrows a word, sentence or phrase from the source without quoting the borrowed word, or searches for a word or synonym related to the borrowed word while maintaining the same structure as the original text.
ACCIDENTAL plagiarism
This usually happens when a person ignores, ignores, or makes no effort to cite their source, or the person deliberately uses similar words to explain a source and incorrectly cite their source. One of the main reasons for accidental plagiarism is disorganization or simply confusion. For example, do not know or even understand how to interpret or use quotation marks correctly.
DIRECT plagiarism
Direct or verbatim plagiarism occurs when an author copies the text of another author word for word without the use of quotation marks or attribution thus passing it as his or her own in that way it is like complete plagiarism but it refers to sections rather than all of another paper this type of plagiarism is considered dishonest and it calls for academic disciplinary actions it is not as common but it is a serious infraction of academic rules and ethicssource
In addition, just to summarize all of the following is considered as plagiarism
1)turning in someone else's work as your own
2)copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit
3)failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
4)giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation
5)changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit
6)copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not.
source
How can plagiarism be AVOIDED
1)Citation of source is the most important way to abstain from plagiarism.you can cite the source of any article, images or language you borrowed.
***An example
The bass guitar is an percussion instrument that is played using strings and helps put music on a straight pattern (my original statement)
"The bass guitar is used to play low musical sounds called "bass lines" in many styles of music such as rock, pop, country, jazz fusion and many more". source (a copy and pasted statement recognize by the quotation makes )
Bass is very important in music and essential in bands because it bridges the gap between highs (guitar) and percussion (drums) while providing rhythm and harmony functions. Despite the hidden and subtle sound of the low frequencies, it plays a key role in a piece of music. source (And finally a paraphrased statement)
2)Paraphrase you content adding your own ideas to it to make more creative.
3)You can use a plagiarism checker to know your level of creativity not your level of stealing
4)Show signs of appreciation to the original author in the list of references
