I am grateful @cryptokannon for the knowledge given me to understand the concept of plagiarism. Plagiarism is a common problem which is as a result of lack of skills and knowledge. It has no exceptions. Once you use a statement or phrase in your article or post which is not originally from you you must reference and give sources properly. But what if the website you took it from is your own built website with your own words, that can be quite confusing and worrying. Unfortunately that is also plagiarism called self plagiarism.

What is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism is can be seen as the act of stealing one's work knowingly or unknowingly without giving reference to the owner. Mostly it is seen when one finally presents the finished work as his or her own original copy

Considered plagiarism are the following

  • failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
  • copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not (see our section on "fair use" rules)
  • turning in someone else's work as your own
  • copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit
  • changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit
  • giving incorrect information about the source of quotation
  • source

Why is it still plagiarism when copy or paraphrase and use my own words?

Self plagiarism can be termed the recycling of one's own words from a different journal or article and using it in another post. Also paraphrasing our own words wouldn't have been needed since it is our own ideas, yet still this can be plagiarism. For instance when you plagiarize your own words and use in a new journal its publication can be blocked. It is advisable to just avoid plagiarism other than trying to make amends.

    Types Of Plagiarism
    1.Complete Plagiarism
Complete plagiarism occurs when one tries to submit a full research work which is not his or her own without giving attribution. This is in a way of copying same exact words from someone's article or post.

    2.Accidental Plagiarism
This happens when citation is not made correctly. In the sense if mistakes are made accidentally doesn't mean it is not plagiarism.

    3.Verbatim Plagiarism
It is also normally called copy and paste plagiarism. Authors sometimes copy and paste other peoples work and use as their own. A word or two could be changed yet still cannot be considered paraphrasing.

    4.Paraphrasing Plagiarism
With this type of plagiarism involving copied work with no intent of mixing up words but keeping the original copy throughout your content.

    5.Self Plagiarism
Most at times not considered by many as harmless but its carries the same essence of damaging as other types of plagiarism. Authors tend to copy their own writing and use it in another write up.
