WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

Plagiarism simply means the usage of another author's language, form of expression and thoughts to persecute an idea without proper or adequate reference.

It can also be described as the expression giving to an original work without acknowledging, pointing to or giving credit to the original source. Therefore the act of plagiarism amounts to robbery otherwise known as intellectual theft and it is an offence that is punishable under law.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
I will be explaining some of the very common types of plagiarism and they are as follows.

1Direct plagiarism
2Mosaic plagiarism
3Self plagiarism
4Accidental plagiarism.

DIRECT PLAGIARISM: This is known as the word-for-word usage of a section of another person work without acknowledgement.

MOSAIC PLAGIARISM: This is a situation that occurs when one takes a phrase from an author and still having the original meaning attached to that expression without attributing it to the main source.

ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM: This type of plagiarism takes place when a person forgets or neglect to cite their sources or perhaps misquotes their sources.

SELF PLAGIARISM: This type of plagiarism mostly takes place in the educational section. This kind occurs when a student duplicates his or her own work and makes uses of it for a different lecturers' project without permission.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

1Make due acknowledgement to or Credit to the original author.

2Keep track of sources you consult in your work so as to avoid accidental plagiarism

3You can equally make use of a plagiarism checker before reporting or submitting any piece of work.

4Another way of avoiding plagiarism is being creative and innovative when putting together any article,or work.

CONSEQUENCES OF PLAGIARISM

1 It puts a dent on one's personally by Destroying a person's academic and professional reputation

2It is a punishable offence under law and so it may attract jail sentence or fines as the case maybe.

3It harms educational establishments in general.

CONCLUSION
It is important to note that the offence of plagiarism is not only highly prohibited but heavily fround at in the publishing world and writing platforms like steemit and thus must be avoided.

I have read, carefully observed and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will definitely do my best to stick to them. Thanks and God bless.
