Greetings steemians.

After completing my achievement 2 task which bordered on basic security on steemit, I am making this post in fulfilling achievement 3(Plagiarism, the types and to prevent plagiarism on steem).

Plagiarism

The University defines plagiarism as follows:

Presenting work or ideas from another source as your own, with or without consent of the original author, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. source

Types of plagiarism

People who plagiarize are thieves even though they are given a sweeter name, plagiarist.

There are different types of plagiarism which we will discuss.

Complete Plagiarism:

This type of Plagiarism occurs when the plagiarist steals totally a complete work of an original author, word for word. And also without giving reference to the original writer

Direct plagiarism:

When a writer copies another author's work without citing the original copy.
The difference between complete and direct is that, in complete Plagiarism the writer copies word for word, while in direct Plagiarism the writer copies at least one or more sentences without referencing the source

Accidental plagiarism:

This as the name implies occurs when the plagiarist is unaware that he is either committing direct to paraphrase plagiarism.

Self - Plagiarism:

This is when you reuse your own words over again, many at times, yes I said it, it can be recorded as plagiarism.

Mosaic plagiarism (Patchwork Plagiarism):

This type of plagiarism exits when the writer copies directly from a source without using quotation marks or citing the original

Paraphrasing plagiarism:

This type of plagiarism occurs when the plagiarist presents an author's original work in his own words hence the the word paraphrasing. This person actually knows he is stealing but decides to twist the original content without referencing the original source. Many writers are tempted to do this but it is very bad

How to avoid plagiarism on steemit

• Allow ample time for writing and revision. The reason why most writers resort to stealing other people's work is because of rushing to write. If you take time to write before a deadline, you'll have enough time to research and review your work well.

Paraphrase only when necessary and include references. Use quoted passages whenever possible and ensure that any word overlap with the original is minimal and justifiable...Source

• Another most important mistake people do is engaging AI to write their works for them. This is not allowed on steemit and users should be wary of such as the system can detect AI generated articles.
