Beers locked down!

8 beers, to your door, for less than 5 English pounds - sounds like a deal to me!

Some people The whole of England was delighted to hear that Off-licences have been added to the government's list of essential UK retailers allowed to stay open during the coronavirus pandemic.

It makes sense. If you want the public to 'stay at home' for weeks on end, you have to give them something to pass the time with. And that my friends, is likely to involve beer.

My friends who aren't working, have started cracking the beer and wine open earlier each day - teaching kids, even your own kids, sounds pretty tiring and I'm not judging at all. My favourite pub though is closed, and i'm not so keen on the local supermarkets drink any more (the locals awesome brews have turned me into a beer snob) and so when I saw this offer online yesterday, I had to give it a go.

The company is beer52, (based in Edinburgh @meesterboom) and website is beer52.com. They are offering new customers 8 beers for the cost of delivery - 4.99, which can be 8 light beers or a mixture of light and dark. You are automatically set up for an order costing 24.99 a month later, but you can cancel this (like I have!) once the first 8 beers have arrived.

I ordered my beers yesterday at around 2pm, and they arrived today at 4.30. The dude brought them to the door of my apartment, knocked, and waited (about 3 meters away!) until I opened the door. Good thinking, I don't want any corona in my box, or from you sir!

Can I interest you in some beer talk?

To the beers!

So the beers arrived in the box below. They were reasonably packaged and separated to avoid disaster - not sure about the pony tail on the guy holding the glass though...

It wasn't clear if I was going to receive bottles or cans, but as it turns out, there are a mix of each. I also went for the mix of light and dark beers, and the below is my reward for sitting on my backside for a day or so.

Out of the 4 cans, I am most looking forward to the Salted Caramel Pastry Stout. The sweet, but still bitter tasting beers (how do they do it?!) are mostly lush in my opinion, and this one stands out. I've not tried any of them before though and so hopefully they'll all surprise me and be worth the calories.

As a nice touch, the box also included a packet of roasted sweet chilli chick peas which are high in protein, apparently. This is good as I've worked out twice today, in advance of blowing the training plan away on these beauties :)

The bottles are a mix of two dark, and two light ales. Winning on name alone is the Knockmealdown Irish Stout by 8 degrees brewery, again though, I've not tried any of these and so I'm looking forward to giving all of them a sup.

Along with the chickpeas and beer was a booklet, which will likely become a coaster before being recycled in the next week or two. You never know though, I might have a flick through :)

Update: it is the following morning and I can say that I tasted all the beers and the salted caramel beer was my favourite.

locked down and knocked down?

Feeling pretty fresh today actually - switched the alarm off and woke up 20 mins after was supposed to be logged on 😁

Hi there

I've been reading through many comments related to new hive chain and I've seen your comment too. Many users are being torn, however majority seem to be moving to new hive.

Are you fully moving there or will you stay on both chains? Just curious. I'm trying to figure out what to do myself.
